hey guyz

As most of you must have heard - a huge catastrophe - truly international in nature has afflicted the parts of South and South East Asia and eastern Africa. Tsunami(huge tidal waves) have been generated by an earthquake in Indonesia and have hit coasts of many countries. At present the death toll is around 50,000 and many thousands are still missing and perhaps a few million displaced. The worst affected countries are Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India. The wizard of offspin Mutthiah Muralidharan was miraculously saved when he drove out of his Galle home 20 minutes before the waves hit it.

A few reports -

The UN says this is the costliest disaster in the history. One of the biggest aid and relief efforts is underway. I just thought that we as a community have been behaving quite well. Perhaps this is the time when we can make ourselves a meaningful community. Perhaps we can make a difference. There are many of us who earn and can donate a few bucks. If you want to donate a bit please visit the following websites:

Most of these links are for aid and relief in India. There has been widespread devastation in other countries too. Around 10-12 countries and 2 continents have been affected. If anyone knows of any other international relief websites where we can make a difference put them here. To us it might be a case of a little expense put to a different use - to the victims it will mean so much.

This was not meant to dampen ur spirits in new year celebrations, but just an appeal to the human in u. Please do not treat this as those circulating emails. I stay in Chennai and I know how bad it is. I thought you all might wanna pitch in too.

Thanks

Prashant

My father and the company are donating Rs.20,000.
My few relations were also in danger which made them shift their houses and were saved.
It shud never happen again.

:p
let us all switch off our computers and observe one minute's silence for all those who died in the disaster

no seriously ,it was quite bad.terrible.let us hope that it does not happen again .People have been warned that another attack is expected .but it should not happen.
I really feel sorry for those who lost their loved and dear and near ones.

Very apt description zim.

BTW, nice of you to point out those relief sites sachinisgod. I am sure a lot of people here would like to contribute something towards rehabilitation work.

besides that is the fault with the media, so very few of the victims are foreigners, yet it is them who get all the attention, the natives are ignored, damn that pic, i have seen pictures of so many indonesian children who play on the beach being killed, why don't u paste that here, they are the ones who are the true victims of this disaster.. out of all the heart-wrenching pics, u had to post this one, didn't u? :(

well dude this thread is not meant for arguments and fights...also this is not a case of foreigners and natives...this kid is united with his parents (thank God) but if he hadn't been reunited then he would have grown up as an orphan somewhere in Thailand...would you discriminate between Thai orphans and foreign orphans...bloody hell its human lives we are trying to help and to me that word means the same irrespective of the citizenship , religion, caste, sex, race...whatever you wanna classify yourself with...if I would have found a pic of an Indonesian, Thai, Lankan, Somali, Malay victim - I still would have put it here...I am an Indian and I am utilising my Indian channels to the full to do whatever I can...again you cannot find fault with media...there aren't many survivors so to say and whosoever they can help they will try to help...so stop questioning people's inclination and show a bit of your own...

Andrew I received this pics on email yesterday and hence put it here...if I had known he had been reunited I wouldn't have "wasted" the bw...but I think its better to use the b/w rather than save it and not do what we as internet users can...what say?
