FULL TIME: Liverpool get a crucial 2-1 away win in Germany

Feel very gutted with that result cuz I thought we played better overall. But they made full use of their chances, were a bit lucky with both goals, but they did get them. In the second half Liverpool were pretty much defending, and trying to attack us on the counter, and in one of those Morientes almost put Liverpool ahead but was offside. Few minutes later, in a rare direct attack from Liverpool, Cisse thumped the ball in from outside the penalty box to put them on the lead. After that Liverpool hardly had any decent chances on goal, and it was us who were trying harder and harder to get an equalising goal. Quite a few chances came our way but thanks to some good goalkeeping from Reina, and some hard luck, we werent able to convert any of them into goals.

We are no doubt disappointed with the result, and it really puts Liverpool in pole position at the moment. We will have to do something special at Anfield, which I am confident that we are capable of. We will now have to score atleast two goals at Anfield.

For the Reds, I thought Steven Gerrard was instrumental. Djibril Cisse was no where to be seen in the first half, and made his presence felt in the second half with that splendid goal. In defence, Liverpool were very organised in the second half and were able to withstand a lot of pressure from our players as we continued our search for an equaliser (and then maybe a possible winner). Their goalkeeper, Jose Reina, a former Villarreal player made some really good saves.

I think however we are really missing Kevin Kuranyi up front, and Cacau and Streller have done a decent job but arent as good as Kuranyi.

I played the last 6 minutes of the second leg, but dint make any major contribution, just one cross into the box from the right wing, that was cleared by Sami Hyppia.

22 tackles from Liverpool, combined with a conversion rate of just 1/7 for stuttgart has cost them dear. Now they must take two goals from Liverpool. Nice story. Sid, is the transfer market over?

No its not, but we have already sent our list of 25 players eligible to play in these two matches. So even if the club makes any new signings, he wont be allowed to play in the return leg. However should we qualify for the group stages, then we will have to submit another (updated) list of 25 players.

Excitement building ahead of Anfield tie

Defending champions Liverpool sit in a comfortable position after vital 2-1 away win in Germany, but people are still not ready to rule out Giovanni Trappatoni's side.

Stuttgart's latest signing Jon Dahl Tomasson is ineligible to play in this match, but will no doubt boost the morale of the team.

The coach himself is very confident they can overturn the 2-1 deficit at Anfield.

"We were a bit wasteful and desperately unlucky in the first leg, but the team is ready and confident now, and I am sure we will make it the final 32 of the Champions League." said Trappatoni.

His opposite number also accepts that the tie is far from over.

"We have an advantage, yes, but there is still atleast ninety minutes of football left, and we will have to maintain or even better improve on our current position." said the ex-Valencia manager, Rafa Benitez.

"Stuttgart are a good side and have some very good players. They are capable of getting the result they need here, but we clearly have a better chance of getting ours." added Benitez.

Stuttgart's new signing Jon Dahl Tomasson also is confident of his team making it into the main group stage.

Stuttgart players training hard ahead of the return leg

"This team plays with a lot of passion, which is why I am so excited to be a part of it. I think this passion as well as the coach's experience down the years will get us the result against Liverpool." added Tomasson.
