Ibanez could be a good buy! But Ranieri needs to deal with the finances carefully! And its a real pity that Tomasson will be missing the start of the season

Training ahead of the opening game

Claudio Ranieri has been very busy in training as his team Stuttgart get ready for the new Bundesliga season, and the opener against FC Mainz.

After going through the squad list, and last season's video tapes, Ranieri has been instructing the players on the game tactics and working a lot more on certain areas like free kicks, crosses and corners.

"I am not very happy with our crosses completion rate, and we do let too many corners and free kicks go to waste. We have to work on that." Ranieri told his players.

Ranieri was happy that Gronkjaer's goal against Karlsruher SC in the last friendly came off a corner kick.

Apart from the Ranieri, Brehme and the other coaches are constantly monitoring the training activities and trying to get their tactics and plans executed by the players.

Ranieri is without Jon Dahl Tomasson and Heiko Gerber for the start of the season, with both players being injured in pre-season games. He is also without defender Martin Stranzl who has joined Italian side Lecce.

Nice use of Fifa 06 here mate, goes well with the storie. Nice adboards too. Good luck for the opening game

Really nice idea MVaughan,I'll look to implement some training sessions in my story as well.Hopefully it will all help you in your game against Mainz.

Preview: Stuttgart vs Mainz - Bundesliga MD1

Stuttgart host Mainz in season opener

Stuttgart will kick off their 2005-06 Bundesliga campain at home to Mainz. The Daimler-Gottlieb stadium faithful will be hoping for atleast a Champions League spot this season, a competition that new manager Claudio Ranieri has good experience of, during his time as manager of Chelsea and Valencia. He took Chelsea to the champions league before the arrival of Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich and then went on to take the team to the semi-finals next season.

Stuttgart are without new signing Jon Dahl Tomasson and left back Heiko Gerber. Tomasson suffered a pulled hamstring during the DFB Liga-Pokal semi-final against Schalke, while Gerber picked up a groin strain in the derby game against Karlsruher SC. The home side will also be missing the services of defender Martin Stranzl who joined Lecce in a ?1.7 million deal. It is however believed though that Ranieri is on the verge of landing either Marco Materazzi, Manuel Friedrich or Pablo Ib??ez to strengthen his team's defence.

Stuttgart also have had a good pre-season run under Ranieri, staying unbeaten throughout. Out of a total of five games played, they've won three and drawn two. And from those two drawn games, one was the 0-0 draw against Schalke in the DFB Liga-Pokal semi-final, which they lost 5-6 on penalties.

FC Mainz have still not made any public response to Vfb Stuttgart's reported interest in thei defender Manuel Friedrich. The visitors also are one of the favourites for relegation this season, and will be looking to get their season off to a winning start on Saturday.

However they did have an impressive first season back in the Bundesliga last year. Jurgen Klopp's team played with a style and confidence which belied their newly promoted status. Klopp knows his team will not be taken lightly this season, and he is hoping the recruitment of experienced midfielder Christian Springer will add some steel to the spine of his team. Klopp is promising to maintain his team's stylish approach this season.

Slightly Old News this: Bayern Munich clinched their 6th Liga-Pokal title after a 4-3 shootout win over Schalke in the final. The match ended 1-1 after 90 mins and then extra time.

Seems like Schalke were given a taste of their own medicine by Bayern. Penalties are cruel!

Okay a slight problem here.

I am unable to view the older matches in my season. Is there any way this can be solved, so that I can post the stats of the games. If not then I wont be able to post anything about the match apart from the scores. (Not even the goalscorers). I wont be able to do that for the games against FC Mainz and Hertha Berlin.

You go to your team screen click on fixtures then you can see the results of past matches. Click on the score on the left. There you can view highlights of the game and ratings and stuff like that. Hope that helps :D

You click on the result like say for example you won 2-1 in would have 2-1 on the left hand side of the screen

I know that. But it does not show the details for some of the earlier matches. I am already done with almost 70% of the season, and have been using the fixtures screen to go back to the older games.

Because of the problem mentioned above I will not be able to post:

1. Match Stats and Player Ratings from the Mainz Game
2. Anything from the Hertha Berlin game apart from the final score. I'll however try to figure out the goalscorers atleast from that game.

I have posted the problem in the SI support forum, and they replied saying that match files get overwritten by new ones after a certain period of time. This can only be changed before the start of a career.

But I'll be posting in-depth match action as normal after the Hertha game.
