Was There A Better Batsman To Watch Than VVS?

Well, now we have another VVS. Thats non other than Murali Vijay. Yes, he is junior Laxman. He is playing an excellent innings against Australia just as VVS. His placements, shots, footwork etc.... are just like VVS.

Simply, Sachin. All those straight drives, cover drives and square cuts he had played in his career were almost classic, and a beautiful thing to watch out. That technique is even better than a heavy shot or a helicopter six to emasculate bowlers' mentality just because of the timing, what we see as an peerless ability. He probably was an artist with such an eye pleasing batting skills. By this time I love watching Rahane's batting.

The fact of comparing Vijay and VVS in terms of their overall achievement against Australia is truth, but the way Vijay plays and Laxman had played, differs in so many portions of batting. Laxman always seen pushing his team forward once he had settled that he rarely missed out to make most of his form and ability to stay and survive the team. I might sound harsh, but I think you haven't watched VVS that they even differ in terms of placement, shots and footwork. Plus Vijay is too consistent at leaving what VVS actually hadn't been. He used to face every mighty pace bowler who has/had brilliant swing and pace. I admit, all his talent was derived with the time and experience he gained from several different playing conditions. Therefore there's a long way to go for Vijay to meet that very very special level, and I hope he would do.:)

Those mighty blows from M S Dhoni... Specially, his 183* was a joy to watch...

Dhoni has literally no class in batting. Majority of his batting is just hard hits and unorthodox shots.

Back on the topic, probably Mahela or Kohli when in full flow.

At the end of the day what matters is how many matches you have won for your nation. (no matter how you win them)
That determines how useful you are to the team.

Agreed but this thread is about classy batsmen like VVS. My point simply is that Dhoni is very far from being classy in his style regardless of the fact that he is probably one of the best finishers in the modern game.

I agree and respect your point. Dhoni is not at all classy. He is like Sehwag who uses hand-eye coordination for batting(with more power), rather than footwork.

But this thread is not about who is more classy. But it's about who is better batsman to watch. With those power shots, I find Dhoni better.

from players still playing I enjoy watching Kohli, Clarke, Bell, and KP (he's still kinda playing, i guess?).

Rahul Dravid's square cut against spinners, Sachin Tendulkar's straight drive against quick bowlers, Sourav Ganguly's cover drive against medium fast bowlers, Ricky Ponting's pull shot against express fast bowlers, Adam Gilchrist's slash cut against fast bowlers, Matthew Hayden's step down and whack against fast medium bowlers. Others in the list include Brian Lara, Kumar Sangakkara, VVS Laxman, Yousuf Youhana, Jack Kallis etc...

As a certified number 11 myself, I always loved seeing Chris Martin face up against the worlds best.
