Its all Part of the game Bro.
Cricket is not all about abilites and strngth.
You need little bit of luck to win any Sports.;)

But their Semi Final Berth was a kindof Fluke,
by Getting 2 Points after getting Bowled Out for 74..
they pipped in West Indies n Oz.

Blame the rains for that.
Had the rain-rule not been there then and had it not played spoilsports, there could have very well been another champion in 1992.

But,Pak played well.Yes,they were knocked out for jusy 74,but they came back strongly to win the semis and the finals. Its a matter of nerves in such matches.

I'd rather you have the topic-Was Bangla's success in 2007 WC a fluke ?

No that was Curtesy to India.:p
Actually You can't say even that also a Fluke. That was poor performance from India and Bangladesh was at its best.

I'm not talking about Ban v India only.
I am talking of their entire campaign, they defeated SAF,mlost to IRE !
Big fluke,.
When SRL beat a few major teams in 1987,they continued in the same vein, not Bangla.Just over-hyped in my opinion.

No, Bangla played like a team and SAF and india didnt.

Winning something is 30% luck, and 70% skill. Everyone has their moments. At the end of the day, it's gotta go one way or another.

I don't see anything wrong with this thread, as long as people don't turn it into a Pakistan vs India debate.

Anyway, interesting point of view Anuj. Pakistan were definitely down and out at one point, and I've heard many people say it that maybe Pakistan weren't the ones who deserved to win that WC, but by that logic Australia shouldn't have won the 87 WC as Pakistan were easily the favorites to win that tournament (much like Kiwis in 92) and may have done so had they not been screwed by Dickie Bird's horrible decision at the semi final. But that's just cricket ain't it!

haha lol
that is wat i tot was exactly going to happen, especially when an indian guy opened this thread! :)

then u can say the other semi final was fluke too dl method 1 ball 21 runs??
rite. sa vs england

The biggest fluke.I feel sorry for SAF.They were the clear favorites though taking nothing away from Pakistan.Akram's spell spelled doom for England.

I think this is so long back that people no longer even care much about it.

It was probably the crowning glory of Imran Khan's career which allowed him to retire with a big bonanza, but otherwise I'd say the 1992 world cup is the least memorable tournament with some pretty ordinary matches and some weak teams getting incredibly lucky with the (old) rain rule.

Well pakistan in the final was amazing and it was all because of Inzaman Ul Haq
but Pakistan was in trouble in the early stage of the world cup 92 but I don't think it was a fluke.
it was just the batting of Inzaman Ul Haq and the bowling of Wasim Akram :)

Well, you can say that Pakistan reached the semis by fluke :p, then won the remaining two matches on pure skill.

Personally, I think Imran's team battled like Tigers in the later part of the tournament. Inzamam and Moin batted brilliantly against New Zealand in the Semi-Final. They did gain momentum in the later part of the tournament but I wouldn't call it a fluke. A team has a couple of bad matches. I can still remember the Wasim Akram ball which dismissed Allan Lamb. What a beauty!

In my view yes it was. One thing about it was they got a wash out in a match against England in Adelaide Pakistan were bowled out for just 74 in that match. If it had run it's course England would've won that match and Pakistan wouldn't have even made the Semi-Finals. Plus they were the only team who beat New Zealand in the Preliminary Rounds.
