This thread is a bit of a tribute to Justin Langer who has worn at leased 7 balls in the head.

Discuss if you have ever been hit batting before and the effects of it. Were you a hero and batted on or did you retire hurt to the pavilion? I?m sure there are some top edge into the face stories out there.

The only time I was ever hit was by a 6 and a half-foot tall kid in under 15?s that was bowling some lively pace and decided to slip in a short one that I didn?t see coming and the rest is history. Luckily due to the great work that Albion do I batted on only to have lost off stump in the next over.

In a school match vs the year below. I had been having a pretty successful season with the bat and was in good touch. Coming in at number 5 with my partner well set on about 25 at the time. Got off to a good start, a nice 4, a couple of singles and twos, all going swimingly.

Now I must point out that there were a couple of cracking pitches at the school, the one we were playing on was not one of them. Little divets existed, and when a ball was pitched on a decent length, easily the sort of length you'd play off the front foot, I got foward only to have the ball rear up at me and crack me on the temple. Dazed and a little confused I decided to bravely battle on and carry on batting. 3 balls later I played a shot straight to cover, got half way down the wicket before realising I had neither called, nor was there even a run anyway. Run out by a country mile and off home I went :p

Funnily enough it was only a year later that it became mandatory for all kids to wear helmets, having never worn one it destroyed my batting for a few years :p

ya in a friendly match between friends, i was batting at no 6 and the bowler was on a hat-trick. he bowled a short ball, while i was certainly expecting an inswinging yorker.
being a left hander, i found it very difficult to sway away from the ball.
i just turned my head around and got hit on the back of my head.
luckily the ball was not so fast, and i managed to recover quite quickly.
i did last 3 overs and managed a paltry 7 runs, before getting bowled by the same bowler.

I have but it was in my friend's MASSIVE garden I was on 78 offf 76 deliveries I managed to smack some 4's and sixes off this offie. He was brought off for the fastest bowler I've ever fasced. He bowled constant yorkers and when I blocked one i raced off for 2 then the short one. I thought it was gonna be a yorker so I was ready to go forward but I was caught in two minds smacked on the head.Fell onto the stumps.Out for 87

I must admit I like to think of myself as an allrounder, but my battng has been improving over the years. Around 2 years ago, I used to bat 11 and miss every ball, I was worse than McGrath had ever been. Now 2 years on, I am opening the batting for my team and gaining more confidence. :D :p

Anyway, I have been hit a few times this season. In the first game, we needed around 52 runs to win and we had already lost 6 wickets, with some not too great batsmen too come. I stayed there till the end of the innnings, but I had been hit on the arm, shoulder and chest. I never show any pain or don't even touch it afterwards :p (I try anyway). Scored 32 not out:p

In a few of the other games, I got hit on the thighs, off fast bowlers, and that absolutely hurt :cutit (I guess the fact that I didn't wear thigh pads didn't help)

Anyway, I've never been hit on the head, and would not like to either. I've a couple of close ones though, but have swayed at the right time.

I've only been hit a few times. I'm currently in year 10 and we had a junior school team but then we found out it was an open team so the seniors tried out and they were fast!!! I got hit right on the middle of the head and nearly fainted. Next ball if comes at full-toss length and hits me right on the hand! (you know how cheap school gear is). Worst pain I've felt in cricket. Then the following week in a real game I get hit on the head again but got 2 runs and I ended up getting out next ball anyway...

I've been hit in the box, when is wasn't quite aliged properly......agony. (You can probably guess what happened, PM me if you want a more explicit description).

Also, as a bowler, I bowled and the batsmen (a really hard hitter and sweet timer of the ball) drove it straight back to me on the full. Bruched my kneecap, which bloody hurt, but an inch to the left and it would probably have broken my leg.

I wouldn't call myself a all rounder, but im a bowler who bats and somebodys bright idea to open the batting with me for 2 seasons straight brought me plenty of agony, numerous times been hit on the thighs, arms, ribs , foot and the hand, and unfortunely i topedged a sweep right onto my helmet inside onto my chin, god that hurts. at least i never opened again:D

I have been lucky enough not to get any hits in my head. Although I reverse swept a ball right on to my lips (was not wearing a helmet) and had a split lip for some time.

Though I did get a real nasty one onto my forearm today. I was barely able to hold the bat, but managed to score 25 runs. No bowling for me today.

But I have knocked quite a few players on their head. Not a nice feelingm I would say.

Thankfully I've never been hit on the head, but there was one occasion where I completely misread the ball and it just rocketed up on hitting the surface. Crashed into me right below my neck. Didn't bat again until after a few months...

Sounds like FreddieFan and langerrox have had the most painful experiences. Getting hit in the box is incredibly funny for the onlooker but probably the worst pain a man can take.

One of the blokes at my club never wore a helmet and has been playing for a fair few years. And in the last few weeks of season topedged a short one into his face and broke pretty much all the contents of his cheek. He had sergery and batted next week in the group final and made 80 odd.

I got hit on the head by a beamer, but it was really slow and didn't hurt. And i've been hit in the box :(.

Worst I can remember is top edging a pull up into the grill of my helmet, was quite a shock to the system that! Been hit several time on the back leg and the hip area in the nets.

Luckily never been hit in the head. I was hit in the shoulder but batted on to make 48 before top edging another bouncer :(

Also been hit in the thigh and hips
