Wearing The Short Stuff

Beat this one guys:
On my first cricket practice ever with a hardball!
I was hit!
Without a box!
Now imagine that!! :D

LoL, also I suck a lot in cricket! =P
So I wen't to bat as nr.11 being very nervous because they had brought to bring the faster bowler to end the tailender..
My partner hit a straight drive and said run, I didn't look at the ball because I was all nervous with tons of equipment..
And I got run out without even facing a ball! =P
The ball was actually at my feet when I was running! =P

I get injured alot although now im having a bit of luck so far as injuries go..sometimes just freakish, some other times unlucky maybe . Most of injuries were while playing soccer but once i got hit right on the helmet once playing a guy who was fairly quick ..it wasn't that nasty, but the other occasion where i got hit on chest i hadda go off after another 3 or 4 balls but luckily others did the job, it was a tight chase. As i mentioned i tend to get some freakish injuries, once i jarred my ankle cuz it got stuck in and other time i got in way of a nasty full blooded throw trying to reach my crease and it missed the pad roll and hit straight on knee, and deflected off near the boundary..that kept me out for quite a while.

Well anak ..all i'd say is i hope it's still functioning & usable lol. OOUCCH. My g/f of few years back asked me what's the most important protective gear and i said the box without a hesitation and she's like what about the helmet but after a while she goes well i suppose you men have more to protect down there than anything in your head anyways and not surprised where your priorities lie..We had a good laugh !

It does say something about men that we took nearly 200 years to start protecting our heads, but protected our genitals pretty much straight away.

Well, I hear prefer to sway away from short balls and use my bat for the rest of the deliveries :D But thw only real hit on my helmet was when I top edged a sweep off a medium pacer on the very first ball I faced with the hardball in the nets...

But I've had a few blows with the tape ball, usually while fielding (Odd bounce does get you, a few have reared up to hit me around the face and chest), and a couple of instances where the bat has smashed my toe...

I have taken a LOT of blows to the face during soccer though. And to the legs when playing with a filled plastic bottle hit on full throttle during break...

Talking cricket of course.

Records of cricket matches go back to the mid 18th Century, but it's proably even older than that.

Sorry for the bump but found this thread interesting.

Ive been hit all over worst one I had was a nasty bouncer that hit my chest I tried to get out of the way but i actually got in the way :(

Do you ever get with club games that the opposing team bowlers were just huge?

As a tail ender, I always had fuller deliveries bowled at me, which were more than enough to get rid of me, I was always quick enough to duck at the really short stuff. The worst I ever had was a misplaced yorker that hit me on the ankle, I was out for months.

I was playing for The Blyth-Jex School against Thorpe St. Andrew High School last season and the wicket was badly prepared so the ball was zipping about all over the place. One ball was short and bounced up, bound for my chest but I tried to get the bat to it and it hit me on the glove. I had a badly bruised thumb for a week or so.

I've had a full toss in my googlies (forgive the obvious pun) but luckily I was wearing a box. I've been hit all over really, but the most painful was when I broke my wrist trying to take a return catch off my bowling. The batsman played a sort of swipe at it and before I even knew I had a sniff of catching it, my wrist was facing the wrong way. My coach went mad at me for dropping the catch.

I have done that. I went to field the ball with one of those slide and push back and landed on my right wrist. I picked the ball up and threw it back before I realised it hurt! I stood in the field for the remaining overs and was preparing to bat before I was talked out of it and taken to hospital. I was in a cast for 5 weeks.

I've 'done an Ed Joyce' as well due to me having fairly weak ankles. That can't be classed as short stuff though. ;)

I never really any painful moments in the 2006 season... I mainly inflicted them on other people :p. Our nets have really hard bouncy wickets so i can get plenty of bounce cos im tall. Not that I would deliberitely try and knock someones head off
