West Indies Diary: Trying To Lift The Gloom

The West Indies cricket team have not had the best of times over the last few years and those fortunes haven't looked like changing very soon. So the WICB decided to search around the globe for a young up and coming manager/coach that could possible bring back the glory days of previous years. With the West Indies name and reputation down from its high legacy many of the top coaches rejected the role, not wanting to blemish their record. Finally the WICB selected there man, a relatively unknown manager named Simon Berry, he has only previous experience with Sussex cricket club working his way up from the youth team to being part of the first team structure. The decision wasn't based upon experience but rather on the WICB believing that Berry has the right attributes for the job, but only time will tell. With the team sitting in 8th place in both of the World Test & ODI Championship Ratings Berry will have an extremely hard task first up having to play host to Pakistan who visit for three ODI's and two test matches.

Okay, I've not done a ICC diary before, so i'll probably just post screenshots of results and stuff but thats a little intro. Basically I fancied a challenge, that being to try and lift the gloom on West Indian cricket. The only problem is i'm not that great at the game and they don't have the best team in world cricket. Anyway thats it really, if anyone has any tips on which players to choose then please post, help me out a bit. I might add a general results bit in this post as I get going so you can check back here for previous series results and possibly scoring records.

West Indies Squad - One Day Series - Home - Pakistan

BAT (o) - Chris Gayle - 106 Matches
BAT (o) - Devon Smith - 7 Matches
BAT - Brian Lara - 244 Matches
BAT - Shivnarine Chanderpaul - 161 Matches
BAT - Ramnaresh Sarwan - 73 Matches
WK - Ridley Jacobs - 147 Matches
WK - Courtney Browne - 32 Matches
BAT/BOWL - Dwayne Brown - 19 Matches
BAT/BOWL - Dwayne Smith - 20 Matches
BOWL - Dave Mohammed - Uncapped
BOWL - Tino Best - 6 Matches
BOWL - Jermaine Lawson - 11 Matches
BOWL - Mahendra Nagamootoo - 24 Matches
BOWL - Fidel Edwards - 4 Matches
BOWL - Ian Bradshaw - 16 Matches

This my squad for my first ODI series which is against Pakistan. I'm not yet totally sold on all players but the squad itself has a solid base, with the major decisions coming on the fringe players and bowlers. I've only the two opening batsman because if one is out of form or injured I'll use Jacobs as cover. The only worry with the batsmen is the lack of right handed players, only Sarwan with the rest down to Browne all left handed.

Two wicket keepers should be fine and went with my two most experienced players in that position for this series. We've got a few younger ones coming through but they don't quite have great averages in the one day game yet.

The all-rounders seem to have a bit of competition but none apart from Bravo have seem to be great quality in both areas. Hinds & Banks were just edged out due to having two decent looking spinners.

The main spin options are with Mohammed & Nagamootoo who will be the first to try and stake a claim to a more perminant place within the squad. Ramnarine, Cunningham Benn and a few others will get a shot at some point.

The real quickies are Best & Fidel, although with Taylor, Washington & Thomas they will have to work hard to impress to maintain a position and push for test match honors.

Lawson & Bradshaw are the other two seamers, giving both a right & left hand combo. Bradshaw is also the more experienced bowler to help the younger players.

Overall, I think once I get used to all the players they might have some potential, but that is the big problem we've alot of young prospects with no gareentees. Anyway its on to the first match.

Cheers for the recommendation Hassan17, much appreciated.

is this thread over now because i would like to see how much you can improve the team

Sorry, but I've a few health problems i'm trying to sort out at the moment so this will have to be on hold for a bit. Hopefully if things get sorted out soon I'll continue. I shouldn't have started it really but didn't think I'd be off the computer so much.

dont worry about it, just do it if you have the time and you want to.
