He's never opened in FC cricket iirc. McCullum could open in Tests if he gives up the gloves :yes

No one in NZ can open :o:spy

Nzers can open we're just really bad at it :p

Yea so? I think he would make a fine Test opener in a few years, (assuming he does not fatter/injured). Its not as if he has had a consistent run to be judged as a Test batsman

BTW I only think in terms of Test cricket
He could, but he's been so good for us in the middle order up to date. he got 4 or so consecutive 50's last year then that 200 against India so I think he's doing great in the middle order. He could be a good opener but I'd leave him where he's having success for the time being.

Ryder has a pretty solid Test record, why doesn't he open again?
Never did iirc

Sure could, his test batting's come a long way recently

Good thing irrotev is banned or Id get a neg rep for this.

If McCullum gives up the gloves then he should not be in the Test side.

Off topic but I would like to see him open instead of Mcintosh, and put somebody like Kane into the middle.

He'd play a Sehwag sort of role up there, and compliment whoever was at the other end - McIntosh or Watling most likely.

McCullum
McIntosh
Guptill
Taylor
Ryder
Williamson
Young +

I want to give you neg rep and put - irrotev beside it, but nah better not :laugh

Off topic but when did irrotev get banned?

It would definately dent his chances but he would surely be picked purely on batting for a while at least, as he's been our third best/most consistent test batsman lately IMO.

His FC average of ~35 is better than most who have been tried at the top of the order, he has experience against the new ball from opening in OD and T20, and is a proven performer at test level. He'd be better up the order than anyone else around in New Zealand at the moment.

I guess when you got no one else but he would not make the OZ, IND or SAFFER sides on his batting alone.

It's not like the keepers of any of the other nations would either :sarcasm
