Out 19 times to a left arm spinner in his last 61 Tests is a much quoted stat over the last few days, the media clearly quite excited by it. Now every side (with any sense that is) will include a left arm spinner. But what to do with him? Play through it is what England often do, Test batsmen in the past few years have been virtually undroppable with Strauss and Collingwood two examples of players who carried on through poor form. Or drop him and send him back to county cricket to work on his technique/approach to spinners?
Are England psychologically overdependent on Pietersen?
Pietersen Test innings breakdown
1-31 : 31 inns, 1485 runs @ 49.50
32-62 : 31 inns, 1509 runs @ 52.03
63-93 : 31 inns, 1500 runs @ 50.00
94-124 : 31 inns, 1175 runs @ 40.52
By his own standards he has dropped considerably in form in his last 31 innings, and if it wasn't for his 227 against the aussies that would be 948 runs in his last 30 innings @ 33.86 which is not good by anyone's standards. If you take his last 10 innings he's scored 392 runs @ 39.20 but that includes said 227 and FIVE scores in single figures - he's only been out in single figures 30 times in his Test career including six ducks of which two have come in his last eight innings.
