when i have got into some of the other forum parts and been in the discussion, i've found it enjoyable, i guess i've been sticking more to "serious" discussion, less jokey but that is maybe because i've been there with something specific to discuss rather than just riffing in the DBC forum while waiting for news, and partly also as mentioned above i know the guys less well. (and when I hazarded a "you're talking rubbish" post to someone he threw a sh*t fit, which was odd as it was pretty much me in polite mode!)

my biggest problem is the organisation. when i come in on the front page, and i see the latest post in general cricket is something like "IPL Auction", or "how good is Pujara?"* i have no interest in those and it doesn't make me click... when it's like "icc restructuring" or that stat attack thing sifter did, that's interesting and makes me click.

i am not sure the best way to organise it, i just know at the moment finding/keeping up to date with the conversations i am interested in is difficult with the current way. (i guess i need to make better use of the subscribe to thread feature - and maybe that could be more prominent?)

I agree with Biggs about the banter, but can we find a better word for it? Not sure about NZ/Aus but over here the word banter has been ruined by morons

Repertoire? Comradery? Back n' Forth? The old chum n' chatter?

I've made a dramatic change which might make the odds slightly better of finding a discussion that's relevant - showing four threads in that spot instead of one.

That's 300% more thread. :thumbs

^ Is that the reason why the Cricket Forum section on the main page seems a bit messed up? I thought it was something related to cache.

Nevermind, it was just me.

Problem is a lot of the smaller forums are filled with the weirdest bunch of humorless nobodies, it's painful trying to get banter started in some of the other sections... I feel like the DBC forum, generally, has a higher banter value these days. Just gotta get more folk, like yourself, Blocker, Snowy and others to step outside and check out the other sections. But you're right, it's a better "catch-all" forum for a little more freedom of thought and discussion, along with humour.

Ya they can be a bit stiff and the the ease with which they type full page length posts....,but some of them really provide detailed well researched stuff and insights, they can easily pass off as articles with a bit of polish. I actually think PC is gifted to have a few guys like that not even other dedicated cricket forums have these kind of posters., they have kept the general cric forums running for a quite some time i guess and seem dedicated to it. Like you say if more DBC crowd visit there, it will get better.

I think the current setup is fine. Pinning the tours seems to be the best way to go.

Current as in the previous of having the tours in the tours forum, or current as in the odd thing of having the current tours pinned in the general cricket forum while the tours forum still exists for future tours?

^ The latter, but I do not feel that it is odd. Having a separation between current and future tours does seem logical. Current tour threads will be more active and once a tour begins, it can be moved out of the tours forum into the general cricket forum.

Stick it all in the one forum. If there was ever proof that the best threads rise to the top it's the DBC forum. Sticky the current tours, shove everything else into the mixing pot and let evolution work it's magic...

Just needs a couple of reasonably active mods to keep the threads tidy and blam, problem solved. The only time you really need sub-forums are in the downloads and modding sections because that's completely different discussion happening that rarely wanders off into weirder realms of discussion.

I agree. However I'd have Fantasy Cricket in a sub-forum because it is different to the other sub-forums and has less posts because it is less of a discussion. I don't want to have to wade through a couple of pages of cricket discussion threads to get to Fantasy Cricket.

I don't go into 3 of the other 4 sub-forums at the moment, even though I'm sure there are some good threads there, because of how it's laid out currently. That may seem lazy, but I find it difficult to find good discussion when it's structured in 4 or 5 different places. And even though I've tried to make an effort to discuss cricket in the relevant areas, I prefer the DBC14 section in general because it is laid out well, and because a lot of the good posters and people who are there seem to not post in the other sections. I think a simpler layout would be more enticing, as that's what has worked for the people who joined PlanetCricket initially only for game news, like myself, and would make it easier to discuss cricket in the correct place and get involved in more discussions.

if something like this a list of hot topics like it is on front page can be put up in DBC section it may encourage people more to check out.

Yeah, Fantasy Cricket would stay in its own section.

No.

We don't need more visual clutter. That "Do your bit to PlanetCricket great" is patronizingly annoying enough, and it barely provides the function it's supposed to. I'd ditch that and have (if you had to have something to push people to other sections) some kind of ticker-tape of latest posts by people... people click on those to find out what peeps are talking about.
