Yes, it does have a small population, and is quite a tiny city, too. But, as posted above, it was a purpose built capital, in which not only would the bickering between Melbourne and Sydney over who truly deserves the capital cease, but the other idea behind it was to avoid the tensions and pace of a congested business city by moving the central meeting point for federal political affairs to a quieter, more fluent environment. Having said that, I'd still like Sydney to be it, seeing as it's our world city and boasts alot more in pretty much all areas, but it won't happen.

Only three stand out choices for me.

Germany - Motorsport
Italy - Motorsport
England - uhm, Motorsport?

So thats why Melbourne got voted the WORLDS most livable city?;)

Yeah, I actually concur with you on the fact that it's far better than Sydney with regards to the lifestyle it offers, however, Sydney is Australia's world city as it's the financial capital, has a larger population, attracts more foreign investors, etc....
Melbourne used to be bigger in those fields, though, if my Geography textbook is anything to go by...

Yeah and didnt Perth come 3rd??

I wouldnt mind living in Melbourne, ive heard such good things about it.
 
Well, I have a list of my countries where I want to live so:

New Zealand, Jamaica, WALES; basically, anywhere but England :D
