Graeme Smith, Gautham Gambhir, Andrew Strauss or Simon Katich. Real opening batsmen there with plenty of flair, unlike Dilshan, Gayle and Sehwag who are just hacks...

Although Gayle's Adelaide knock was class.....

Some real fine openers in test cricket at the moment. Gambhir, Sehwag, Katich, Watson, Smith, Strauss, Dilshan. I'll go with Gambhir because I'm biased (although it is more than defendable) but it's tough to pick the best opening pair, let the best opening batsman in test cricket right now.

I said Smith. He and Strauss play most of their cricket in places where opening is a major Challange but Smith has being a better player than Strauss over the long run.

Pretty interesting. Gambhir may qualify here in terms of runs he scored in the past season, but I have to see how many of his runs were scored OUTSIDE India. He got 1 century in NZ, but we all know that they aint the best team in the world.
