Wicket or not

I think what everybody seems to miss is that he bowls left arm leg spin! I've always wanted to be able to do that!

I think Zorax might be right, if he hit it.

There's the official rules online somewhere, but not at the ICC website.

Depends if it's leg spin to a right handed or left handed batsman. It's a common synonym for left arm orthodox, but ambiguous because it can be used to describe the alternative. A lot of people prefer not to use the term chinaman partly because its origins are somewhat racist, but it is also one of those obscure cricket terms that makes no sense and always needs explaining. Thus Richie Benaud, you will find, describes the style as left arm over-the-wrist spin.

The official rules are at the official site of the creators of the official rules;
www.lords.org

From the Lords website:

The striker shall not be out Run out if he is out of his ground, not attempting a run, and his wicket is fairly put down by the wicket-keeper without the intervention of another member of the fielding side, if No ball has been called.

There is no mention anywhere in the stumping law that edging it makes a difference. Its a stumping as far as I'm concerned, so you son took his first wicket. :)

It's all a bit up in the air really. In this instance, the batsman is out stumped, as he wasn't trying to run, so it doesn't matter whether he hit it or not, as the Keeper took the bails off. The stupid thing is, that if the batsman defends it to silly point say, who then hits the stumps, he is run out, rather than stumped, as although he's not attempting a run, a fielder can not perform a stumping, which is stupid because it should be stumped in my view.

I agree with that part. If it can be stumped after hitting the ball, then fielders should be allowed to make a stumping too.
Maybe even if the batsman plays and misses, but the slip fielder gets the ball and throws the stumps down...

And Left-arm legspin isn't that hard. I can bowl it :) Although then again, I've been practicing trying to bowl left arm for years...

as someone mentioned earlier what my sun actually bowls is a Chinaman or as Mr benaud left arm over wrist spin.

looks liek the consensus is that it is a stumping and he gets his first district wicket :happy
