Hardcore Batting:
You should complete all of the other Installation Steps above before proceeding to ensure you have a completed async.big.w32 file for bowling/fielding!
Download -> Hardcore.zip | Before installing the Hardcore files we're going to do a couple of things so navigate to your installation directory and then the "final" directory: "Codemasters\Ashes Cricket 2009\final" inside you will see the async.big.w32 file. Now extract the "Hardcore" directory inside the Hardcore.zip archive you downloaded to a location of your choice such as your Desktop. Inside the "Hardcore" directory you just extracted you'll see a file called: "batting-bowling-switcher" with a batch file extension so: "batting-bowling-switcher.bat" is the full filename. This is a Batch File I made that is going to save you time and make your life much easier to swap between the Batting with Hardcore mode and Bowling with the reticle. Copy this file to your: "Codemasters\Ashes Cricket 2009\final" directory so it sits alongside the async.big.w32 file. Now you need to double-click/run/execute this "batting-bowling-switcher.bat", after a few seconds you should see the notification message: "File Copy Complete", press "OK" to clear the message/close the Alert Window. You should create a Desktop Shortcut to this "batting-bowling-switcher" file now as you will be using it regularly in the future. DO NOT run this file again or try to test the Desktop Shortcut until after you have completed the following steps though! The .bat file you just executed created a copy of your async.big.w32 file called: "BATTING.async.big.w32", you should see it inside the directory like so:
Now using the Big Editor, you need to open: "BATTING.async.big.w32" - Remember that if you have already been using the Big Editor it will open the last file you were modifying which will most likely be "async.big.w32". Be sure to use the Top Menu of the Big Editor and click "File" -> "Open Archive" and open the "BATTING.async.big.w32" file before proceeding, do not edit the "async.big.w32" file as this is the file for bowling and we don't want to install the Hardcore Patch on that one! Once you have opened the correct: "BATTING.async.big.w32" file with the Big Editor it's a very quick job, using the Big Editor navigate to: "AC09/startup/startup.wad/startup/database" select the "global.db" file, click 'replace' then navigate to the location where you extracted the "Hardcore" directory from inside Hardcore.zip - inside the "Hardcore" directory select the "global.db" file to complete the replacement. Now finally, using the Big Editor navigate to: "AC09/gdata/" and select the "gdata.wad" file then click 'replace', navigate to the location where you extracted the "Hardcore" directory from inside Hardcore.zip. Inside the directory you will find two more directories: "Radar - ON" and "Radar - OFF". Decide whether you want the Radar on or off and open the appropriate directory then select the "gdata.wad" file inside to complete the replacement.
This concludes the installation of the Hardcore Batting Patch. Now each time you want to swap between Batting & Bowling, simply save your game right at the start of the new innings and close the game entirely, then run the "batting-bowling-switcher.bat" file again and it will automatically adjust the "async.big.w32" fies for you. Then it will give you a notification on the screen to let you know whether Batting or Bowling Mode is enabled:

(Don't worry about the lines of code you see in the Window by the Alert Message - it shows all of the lines of code in the Batch file, even if those code lines are not being executed).
Hardcore Batting Patch is up - I also created a One-Click Batting/Bowling Switcher for you to use so you don't have to manually rename the async.big.w32 files when you want to swap between Bowling with the Reticle and Batting without the reticle/with the late pitch point marker.
