There's an utter exaggeration of this 'negativity' in this thread. People aren't being negative about Ganguly as a player, they're just trying to put him in a place in cricketing history which is fair. Whereas a lot of the Indian fans on here are proclaiming him one of the best ever, which he wasn't. He was a very, very, very good cricketer, but he's not one of the best ever.
The only time at which people are being negative towards him surrounds his attitude, and they are correct too. He was an arrogant, self-obsessed, petulant, bully of a spoilt child, but this isn't to say he wasn't a great cricket. He just wasn't a great guy. Besides, if Ganguly actually had the application, determination and the correct attitude, then he could well have been a far better player. Someone made the point about the jibs that Ganguly couldn't run between the wickets but still scored 9,000(?) ODI runs, well the lamentable fact about that is that if we had been up the standard of fitness of the typical international cricketer now then he could have scored many more.
