In these media obsessed times, that seems a little shortsighted on the part of your school actually.I wasn't even offered the chance to do media. Our school considered it below our amazing standardsI go by the old fashioned subjects, English, Maths, Languages, History/Politics, Geography, Art/DT and the Sciences. Anything else is just a new subject devised by the government so everyone can get a qualification in something.
I get annoyed with people who, when I say what I'm doing in media, say "but isn't it just watching films all the time?" - no it bloody well is not! There is a lot of theory but thankfully a lot of practical work involved. There is no more useful subject in my opinion. I do Sociology, but never hear anything of it outside of the classroom, yet the media is everywhere. I like being up to speed and technical.
That's rubbish. Math, English, English Literature, Psychology, all come far, far more handy in day to day life than Media Studies. Sociology is more useful even. These subjects are the essence of daily living, as they develop your grasp over language, basic reasoning skills, and help you develop an understanding of the way the others around you thing and feel and how they react. You would be an absolute outcast if you didn't take them, or atleast you would struggle to get along with others or to solve problems faced every day.I get annoyed with people who, when I say what I'm doing in media, say "but isn't it just watching films all the time?" - no it bloody well is not!
