Me and mob were having practically a two day discussion over this.

The man is an absolute genius, one of the best musicians in the world. I don't think i've heard a single song from Rahman that I haven't grown to like, if not love.

Discuss.

Yes you're right Cricketman, AR is an absolute genius. My favorites include his works in Roja, Dil Se and his album Vande Mataram. However I don't understand why he is still doing music for Bollywood films. Usually these films are pathetic with hardly any scope for AR to realise his genius in them! I'd love to see him do more albums, less film music. Vande Mataram was such an epic work of art, amazing! And just in case you've forgotten, youngsters at the time would rather not sing the original Vande Mataram. AR singlehandedly brought this song back into our national consciousness!

As for a debate, I think it's worth debating whether AR is better or RD Burman. My vote would belong to RD, but AR is a genius in his own right.

Yeah, as well all know, this man is foping brilliant. I absolutely LOVE the soundtrack to Nayak and Lagaan, but there really is nothing mediocore that has been created by him, like ever.

Also, the ever popular Airtel theme tune is a masterpiece.

He is certainly an absolute genius. What's unique is that unlike other musicians, who play Indian music through Indian instruments,he plays them by western instruments.

Wow, a favorite thread for me.....

I am mad head over heels on this guy (AR RAHMAN). In fact this time when I went to India (Chennai), I even tried to get a poster of him so that I could put it in my room. I am that mad about him. Its very very tough to recall a song of his that I can say as "average". Almost all his compositions are of very high quality and many of them take me to an entirely different and blissful world. For some compositions, I have even shed a tear or two due to overwhelming happiness.

HE IS FREAKING GENIUS!!!! His "Slumdog Millionaire" is one of his best works.

Epic thread. i've got so many things to describe about him that i ultimately fall short of words. One of the world's best.

Man is genius but I can tell you enough songs which dont get on you.:p

From the experience of hearing his songs, What I feel is, When I listen to ARR songs for very first time, it will look ordinary to me. But as I keep hearing it, I will become that song's favorite :p Some songs in Tamil are exceptions though. They will be like not even worth to hear it ;)

But whatever, he is a legend. :)

Like What Gates is for Computers, & what Sachin is for Cricket, & what M.Schumi for F1 .... ARR is for music to me. :)

This guy was born for Music. My favourite composer, Rang De Basanti does it for me from him.

Also I have the Airtel tune as my Ringtone, You never get bored listening to it, It reminds me of landing in Mumbai.

Could'nt have said it better myself!

Guy is an absolute genius. My favourites: Dilse song from the movie Dilse, Only You from VM, Roobaroo from Rand De Basanti, Theme music from the movie "Ratchagan" in tamil. The theme is stunning.:clap

Good grief, Mumbai Theme Tune is absolutely breathtaking, especially when the Violins kick in.

My favorite is Kalaiyil Thinamum, I think. The vocals are perfect, the piano work is superb, especially the spine chilling bit at 1:15.

Is that the Mom song that you showed me a few days ago?

Kabhi Kabhi Aditi from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is a brilliant song as well. One of his best from recent times at least.

Bheka, of course is fantastic as well.

AR iss best when he uses symphony. Yuvraj being best newest example.

Yuvraj songs are decent, but the movie is soooooo bad that I can't bare to listen to the music as it reminds me of the horrible acting combination of Salman, Katrina, and Zayed. :noway:
