T20 WC Final: Pakistan v Sri Lanka

2009 T20 WC:

1. Ajantha Mendis averages 9.08 with 12 wickets taken; economy 4.95

1. Umar Gul averages 10.75 with 12 wickets taken; economy 6.29

2. Saeed Ajmal averages 11.25 with 12 wickets taken; economy 5.62

3. Shahid Afridi averages 12.90 with 10 wickets taken; economy 5.37

2. Lasith Malinga averages 13.91 with 12 wickets taken; economy 7.70

3. Angelo Mathews averages 16.80 with 5 wickets taken; economy 6.00

4. Muttiah Muralitharan averages 17.25 with 8 wickets taken; economy 5.75

5. Isuru Udana averages 24.00 with 5 wickets taken; economy 8.57

4. Abdul Razzaq averages 27.00 with 2 wickets taken, but his economy is 5.68

5. Mohammad Aamer averages 29.00 with 5 wickets taken; economy 7.25.

Pakistani wickets (from main strike bowlers): 41

Sri Lanka wickets (from main strike bowlers): 42

Pakistani average runs conceded per wicket: 18.18

Sri Lankan average runs conceded per wicket: 16.21

Pakistani average runs conceded per over (economy): 6.04

Sri Lankan average runs conceded per over (economy): 6.59

So interesting statistics to look at... As far as wickets taken, thats almost neck and neck, will probably end up equal after the final.

As far as my calculations are concerned, the average runs conceded per wicket are taken by just adding up the averages and dividing by 5. Average economy is self explanatory (add up economy rates, divide by 5)

So it seems Pakistan will be more likely to limit the opposition, while Sri Lanka will take wickets. Both teams have taken different methods as far as bowling is concerned (although they have similar attacks), but both have got them to the final.

Regarding send2yaari's fast / spin comparisons regarding bowling...

Pakistani spinners (Afridi & Ajmal) average 12.08 per wicket, economy is 5.50, and have taken 22 wickets.

Sri Lankan spinners (Murali & Mendis) average 13.17 per wicket, economy is 5.35, and have taken 20 wickets.

Prehaps the Pakistani spinners have gone after wickets while the Sri Lankan spinners have looked to slow down the rate. Take your pick as to which team's are better.

Pakistani pacers (Gul, Aamer, Razzaq) average 22.25 per wicket, economy is 6.41, have taken 19 wickets.

Sri Lankan pacers (Malinga, Mathews, Udana) average 18.24 per wicket, economy is 7.42, have taken 22 wickets.

I guess send2yaari is correct depending on how you look at it - the Pakistani pacers (and spinners - an economy of 5.50 is not bad) have controlled the game, while the Sri Lankans have attacked and gone for wickets with their pacemen. Although prehaps the stats are a little skewed with Mathews 3 wicket opening over that was really gifted to him by the Windies (it was good bowling, but 3 inside edges?)

Make of it what you will :)

This percentage is on the basis of this T20 WC and also with the form of teams mate.
Pakistan has more variety in spin with googly, faster one, great dossra's etc
Srilanka has more good starts with their pace bowling while as far Pakistan is concern has totally relay on Gul

it going to be a good Final
Lets hope is not a repeat on the Semi final between Sri Lanka and West Indies:mad:

Pakistan deserve it even though Sri Lanka is strong team which is undefeated. I hope Misbah finally hits winning runs so that he can sleep without that shot of last finals in mind.

I back Srilanka for the win although I have nothing against Pakistan.Hoping to see a quality game.

Inshallah Pakistan will play well regardless to what the outcome of the match will be.We have shown the class and even not playing international cricket as much as other big teams we still are in finals. If we have the trophy then it will be fantastic and if not then they have already won the hearts of the hole Nation.

Sri Lanka deserves it after what the Pakistani public put them through in Lahore.
Either way, hoping for a tight match

Pakistani public put them through in Lahore?? What did the people of Pakistan have to do with a terrorist attack?

i want pak to win but got a feeling that sirlanka may win instead, the team which bats first will have the real advantage

let me rephrase,
after what they were put through by the PCB and their incompetence

also im pretty sure the terrorists were members of the pakistani public

Agree with that.

terrorists are terrorists. You cannot associate them with the regular citizens of Pakistan. Terrorists don't care who they shoot or who they hurt, so its a ridiculous statement made by you.

I could tear this argument to shreds but lets get back to the cricket.

I feel Pak has edge over SL,but in 20-20 nothing can be predicted, anything can happen..All the best for both the teams...

The D-Day has come, yes, anything can happen, its like Pak bowlers vs Lankan Bastman

you are just being ignorant mate...anyway
Inshallah Pakistan will try their best to win this Cup but If they lose(I hope not) then they still did well.

Come on Pakistan:happy
