Hi all.

I'm thinking of using Paypal for online transactions from now on - how secure are they? Has anyone here had any problems with them, are there any hidden charges and so on? How long have you been using them?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

PayPal is really secure. I am using it from last 2 years. It doesn't even allow proxies. Really secure :).

Thanks for the replies. It's annoying that some places don't seem to accept Paypal (I don't think HMV or play.com do, and they're two of my main sites).

I use Paypal lot of times, and I have not had any problems so far.

I use PayPal For Steam :spy,No problem so far

Why are you trying to pay for everything via Paypal? What's the point? Play.com and HMV will have secure payment systems in place, and surely you'll be using the same card as you would with Paypal, so I don't really see the advantage. Just seems like alot of pointless effort. I've only ever used paypal for Ebay transactions.

A PayPal account itself is fee, so no hidden charges there.

If you're going to be accepting payments through PayPal, there's a percentage cut they take for credit card payments (something like 1-2%).

For spending, PayPal is really secure. They even have a limited liability policy in case you make a bad purchase, but you'd have to look into their terms and agreements for exact numbers. It's a lot better releasing your CC information only to one entity (PayPal) than to every one you shop from.

Play.com and HMV are big enough enterprises that you can trust their payment portals. However, a distinguishing feature of bad sellers in the small merchant space is that they won't accept payments through PayPal. With PayPal, you have a legal agreement that they won't share your CC info with anyone else. With a smaller merchant, you have no guarantee as to whether the credit card processing company isn't employing bad practices.

I had PP a while back. Someone tried to hack into my account so they completely locked it out. Had $300 of my money in there for like 6 months before I could get it out. Swore off it for ages until last month when I had to sell something on eBay.

How about Amazon - are they as trusted as HMV/Play.com? I mean buying from Amazon themselves, not from a third party.

Amazon is freaking amazing. Cheap prices, no tax, free shipping. Amazing customer support too. Never had a problem with Amazon. We buy A LOT of stuff from there.

Paypal is good as well. Especially if you are the buyer - you have up to like 10,000$ in buyer protection and can even claim your money back if someone scams you or something. I have had a few horror stories with PP, but it was my fault and everything was restored in the end.

About security, you shouldn't have a problem with paypal at all.

I'm just going to put this out there - PayPal is known as secure, and blah blah blah.

But nothing on the internet is EVER secure.

Keep that in mind.

Well they aren't going to be the ones to blame in case of an incident.

Paypal is a well trusted company. Have no worries.

Amazon is probably as legit as you can get on the internet. Deffo more than Play.com, no idea what HMV is.

People actually get Battrick membership?

Paypal is very good :D Safer than ***doms :\
