THE image of the Australian cricket team has taken another battering with a majority of supporters blasting the behaviour of the players in Perth as "over the top and embarrassing".

With three Australians reported during the ill-tempered third Test against the West Indies, most respondents to a Fox Sports survey were critical of their antics.

Asked to rate the team's behaviour in Perth, 70 per cent listed it as "over the top and embarrassing", while just 17 per cent said it was "passionate but in the spirit of the game". Another 12 per cent rated it "awesome, that's how the Aussies play".

The growing image problem has been caused by Shane Watson's send-off of Windies skipper Chris Gayle and a confrontation involving Sulieman Benn, Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson.

Ponting addressed the behaviour at a team meeting yesterday while Haddin said that he should not have pointed his bat at Benn.

"It wasn't a good look pointing my bat," Haddin said. "It wasn't a good look for the fans and especially wasn't a good look for the kids so I'll be working on it to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"It was probably a bit too animated for what the occasion was so I apologise for that.

"We know the mistakes we made there. Let's move onwards and upwards."

While fans clearly do not rate the behaviour of Australia's cricketers, it appears Pakistan does not rate Australia's bowlers.

Batsman Misbah-ul-Haq said yesterday Australia's bowling was "suffering from a bit of a problem" and was not as good in the post-Glenn McGrath/Shane Warne era.

"I think definitely the standard of their bowling has really changed from then," he said.

"At that time they were having four frontline bowlers and all of them were match winners. Now it is a bit changed.

"They don't have Warne especially. Australia is suffering a bit of a problem in their bowling attack."

Australia is waiting on the fitness of Ponting (elbow), but it appears Pakistan is mindful of the skipper's perceived problems against the short ball.

Asked if Pakistan's quicks would attempt to rough Ponting up in the same way as young West Indian firebrand Kemar Roach, Misbah said: "It might be the game plan of the team what we are going to do."

Can't agree with the fans more. Good to see the players moving on :)

And Misbah there, having a sly dig at the bowlers. He must get ready for some chin music from the pacers now :p

This is from the Australian newspaper, the Herald Sun.

General news article which many must've not read and seems to be feeding the trolls, who would shortly appear and talk about condoms, sex, and pretty much everything not related to the thread to get it closed.

And I don't think we should be making a big deal out of this reaction. Its pretty much similar in every part of the world when something goes wrong. India baited Sree's behavior. Pakistan baited Shoaib's antiques. England can/might bait players. And the trend goes on.

Its really retarded to assume things someone doesn't agree to as a rant.

Oh well, we know they're out of contention for the spirit of cricket award lol. Then again they never win it anyway.

Participation is all that matters. :laugh

RDF should probably have posted this on ICF, would get more feedback.

....who then went and drunk a six-pack of VB's, put their Aussie bush hats on (with complementary corks) and then went to find Skippy, and eventually ate some dingo!

Those are real Aussies ;)

ok. So whenever a poll comes from England I will say... who then woke up the next morning, have a slice of lettuce, eat a cookie with a knife and fork, get a cup of twinings tea and feed your dog fifi before they head off to work.

Well I would be pretty disappointed as it would probs be a muffin, not a cookie and you only use a fork, not a knife. As for the lettuce I don't know where you have got that from :p and work? More like a day's worth of shooting some grouse and phesant

I expect better from an Aussie then that ;)

Whose fans might I ask?

And that is so out of place from Misbah. What sort of authority has he got, he's just some random batsmen with no name.....

I use the "Dingo ate my baby" line all the time :laugh

What else can you expect Highlander, we drink a six-pack everyday :cheers

I always tell people from foreign countries that I ride my kangaroo to work, it's part of the fun. In an online FPS I'm in a predominantly Aussie clan and we always make jokes to people from the US that we play against about how we ride our dingos and kangaroos to work, and strap two wombats under our feet and use them as roller skates.. it's just part of the fun. If you can accept where you are from and then use it in a joking manner you won't be offended by anything... also, the sad part is that a lot of the people from the US believed us... :D

Anyway, this is another one of RDF's ridiculous threads, not sure if there's even a point trying to post anything. The biased ████ that spews out of this guy's mouth was funny after like one article but now it's just stupid, he probably spends his spare hours looking for articles against Australia that he can post on here and try and look cool with his Indian buddies.

I think the media has actually made a LOT more of this than needed. Fine, yes the incidents were poor - I'm not saying that, but EVERY DAY THIS WEEK the journos have been out prodding and poking Watson, Haddin and Gayle about what happened.

The match finished on Sunday. Monday we got a story about Watson saying he was provoked, and it wasn't a 'hey i was provoked' outburst, it just happened to come up during questioning. Tuesday we got a story about Gayle saying Watson was soft, a joke basically that got way more airtime than it deserved. Wednesday we got a story about Haddin not wanting to respond to Gayle's comments and saying the Aussie's were over the incident, as though that was somehow a reprehensible stand. Then Thursday we get this piece of tripe making a judgmental swipe on the whole affair:
Watson slanging match hits new low - Australia - Fox Sports

The only reason it's hit a new low is the media keeps f**king asking about it and writing stories about it :mad::mad:

It's not as though there is nothing to write about. We've been less than a week away from the Boxing Day Test against a Pakistan team that the average Aussie in the street knows bugger all about. How about writing something about them??

The trouble is the Australian cricket media are so pompous they don't know how to write about anyone else but Australian players or only the obviously awesome internationals eg. Tendulkar, Gayle. It's the same with the commentators - I bet Bill Lawry's never seen Mohammad Aamer bowl, yet we are relying on these guys for expert comments? It's a joke.

Ah, rant over. I'm just sick of hearing about Perth. Let's move on please :doh

Anyway, this is another one of ...

Grossly off-topic. Funny you talk about cool this and that, when you don't have the creativity to write your own satire, steal people's work and then sit crying in a corner saying, "I didn't mean to offend anyone" while posting on people's walls that "I'm just sucking up to them".
Great work Blakey. :clap

Back on topic-
Agree with Sifter. Media tends to make a big issue about stuff. And it happens all around the world. Interesting that some people choose to make it look like they were being offended (by their own media, may I add) over something which everyone copes with in all cricketing nations. And like I said in the first pot- "Good to see the players moving on". I hope people do too

I`ve yet to see a thread with you posting in it without saying 'This is off-topic..'

Its becoming a drag, really.

Do you really need a new thread everytime you post an article on the same subject?

Hint: The answer is no.
