1 Gbps Broadband

2 Mbps is thing of past. You can easily get 16 Mbps for your home.

The thing is Korea is tiny and most of its internet stays within its borders, owing to not many other countries that speak Korean. Japan is a similar story. This makes it much easier to keep high speeds. You could do uncapped fibre in any country and get close to those sort of speeds to the ISP, but it would hit some full tubes on the way out of there.

I can't even think of having more than 512kbps. It's really costly :p

Unless your friend is your admirer, and is a son of a billionaire. /end.

Yeah, WHM is spot on. Couldn't agree more, but when the case is with the Bigger countries, is withheld. Neither does technology do a difference, but the affordability. I think only the so-called priviledged can enjoy it, at a cost. 1GB is god speed. Man, imagine.

Hey probably BSNL will release 1Gbps in next 5 years but that will have 2GB download limit :laugh

Apart from watching HD stuff on your TV what else will you do with it? For HD stuff you do not need 1Gbps. :p

Which is why I believe over the air high speed communication is the way to go once technology comes out. Fibre cables cost a LOT to install, maintain underseas. And each cable is bandwidth limited, so you want more bandwidth you have to shell out more than the other guy behind you.

Tata Indicom has 100 Mbps for home users. Ofcourse, with a 20 gb monthly download limit! :doh

I can bet the 1 Gbps connection won't be even 100 Mbps for connection to any server outside Korea, because there are huge latencies involved when the cables cross the seas.

Still, it's a great leap for the internet bandwagon, and I hope it catches on with the entire world :)

India (or for that matter anyone else) dont need 1Gbps. 20-25Mbps (UNLIMITED) is enough even for having simultaneous HDTV in your home. Right now India should aim for making 2mbps unlimited as the common option for all homes in India (2mbps unlimited is common right now for the high end cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, not for the other ones).

What percent of the Indian population has access to the internet? They might be better off giving people in rural areas access before they start messing with speed floors in the rest of the country. Access to the internet in remote areas will only improve their quality of life and education.

1 gbps WOW, I am happy with my 1Mbps speed. In Pakistan, it is only dream to have 1gbps.
