He's had occasional problems with the short ball now and it appears he doesn't have the time to play as he used to.

ehh, highly debatable and discussed to death, brought to life and killed again multiple times
Unless he has a huge resurgence of form, then no. Tendulkar is on the up despite his age and how long he's played. Ponting has look out of sorts lately, nothing like the old run scoring machine of old.

Depends on what era you are looking at I guess.
I think that's the tip that he's starting to head downhill. Never would you see the Ponting of old (or even the Ponting of a couple of years ago) get bounced out like he did against the Windies and Pakistan this summer.
