Emerging Players tournament 2010

Beard's got 3 wickets so far, race between him and Scott to grab the rest :p

Chewie added 0 Minutes and 21 Seconds later...

4 now!

It doesn't look like the AIS took their game terribly seriously, whereas the NZ team continue to impress. It was obviously a good batting track when How hit his third ball for six to get off the mark, but it wasn't a blowout initially, with NZ getting 1/100 in the first 20 overs.

After taking drinks, the ensuing chaos was far from respectable. With wickets in hand, NZ just played the back half like a T20, attacking from the get-go. I know the whole point is to give younger guys a go against good opponents, but the bowling plan just seemed a bit too predetermined and more dependent on all-rounders than specialists. With something like 10 specialist pacemen in the AIS squad, why do that?

That said, early wickets could have changed the course of the match, forcing NZ's batting to be more responsible in the second half.

The Ind-SA game is very interesting. Davy Jacobs found form that they would have liked to see in the T20s, but spin put the clamps on an otherwise aggressive innings. India used the tournament rules to desirable effect, giving Piyush Chawla 12 overs, although he got his 5 wickets in the first 10 anyway. However, if it was strict 40 over rules, he would have bowled 8 overs for a more modest 2/43.

The response from SA was what you might expect; it's all about seam-up, nicks behind and the odd bouncer, yorker or lighting throw at the stumps. The Indians picked up their woes from last game, looking good periodically, but struggling to build, Chawla the top scorer with a quick 44; he did what had to be done, but it was just too late in the piece to ask for another single handed effort.

I knew it India gonna lose, nobody stepped up at any moment except Chawla. Well but that wasn't enough, also Unadkat was the 12th man.:confused

Hmmm, Brownlie's not having too bad of a tournament is he. He didn't look like much of a player from the limited action I saw of him last domestic season but he fashioned himself quite the record for Canterbury (albeit on the flattest track going around the domestic scene). He's been around for an age though having played a lot of cricket in both Australia and England.

Very glad to see New Zealand's second best spinner performing here too, the quicker the New Zealand selectors realise just how good Nick Beard is and that he's a infinitely better spinner then who we are using at the moment. He's got a rather unique action but it's dam effective as players generally find it very difficult to score of him.

Brownlie's been probably the best batsman at the tournament so far. Top scorer in the OD matches by a sizeable amount, and second top in the T20s, having played one less game.

Diamanti's been batting pretty well too

Geez that was some poor batting by AIS, seemed like all of them were still in T20 mode, they could bearly make 150. Maddinson was the pick of the bunch, Maxwell produced one good knock as well. Ferguson will be better for the run I guess, didn't show much at all.

I wouldn't want to see him near the side for a few more years with a consistent FC record

Well even though I would agree that he needs to get more experience. The best batsman in the NZ emerging players squad, usually find themselves in the national team within a year or two.

I didn't follow it from some time and suddenly came across news that India and SA made it to the final.
India defeated Aussie by 2 wkts.

Well Didn't India reach the T20 finals too and lost.
But this is their chance, go boys go, grap this cup.:D
