India tour of Sri Lanka - July/Sept 2017

At this point India will have a lot of injuries going into that 2018 tour of England. Let's just hope some of our top players aren't going to play series because it is completely unnessacery when playing aganist a weak team, just like how Dhoni and Kohli are playing aganist WI when they are absolutely going to smoke the Windies. West Indies, Sri Lanka, home series, some overseas tour and IPL. Damn.

They could have rested the players like Kohli, Ashwin and Jaddu ( dropped tbh ) for the Windies tour and keep them fresh for the test series. But we can't take sri lanka lightly and rest the players. Remember what they did to Australia ?

I feel like you're constantly trying to get milk from the same coconut with Rohit Sharma. Why keep persisting with Sharma, when he clearly struggles in Test Cricket out of India. What is most likely going to happen is that he'll score a big hundred against Sri Lanka and be included in the series against England, flop majorly in England because of the likes of Stokes, Anderson, Broad and Ali - get dropped for some like like Nair again.

Then the circle starts again.

Rohit Sharma always had the backing of selectors, captains and the coaches be it ODIs too as they prefered talent > performance. Before 2013 CT his one day record was quite dismissve averaged 29 in 90 odd match with couple odd 100s but was repeatedly selected in the squad hoping to perform consistently and he finally did first in the CT and then against the Aussies where he scored 3 centuries that also includes 1 of his 2 double hundreds and from then on his One day career just went uphill. In test cricket this might well be his last opportunity to perform and do anything substantial in his test career over the the next 2 years or so and if he fails ( which i think he will ) the circle will definitely not repeat again as Nair is too good of a player to miss out on a test spot.

Why should it have to be at the cost of the side`s results. We did the same with Yuvraj and I remember that tour to Australia in 2008 where we made huge compromises to just fit in Yuvraj in the test side eventhough he was way out of depth there. Rohit does not have the discipline, stamina or focus needed for test cricket. We tend to lose out on good test cricketers in trying to force out a test career for players who are clearly ODI specialists. Badrinath or Kaif should`ve played a lot more test cricket than Yuvraj but never got afforded that luxury. With Shastri back, I would`nt be surprised if guys like Harbhajan come back into reckoning.

Honestly, with the way Sri Lanka has been over the last 5-6 months, a second string team would have been ideal for this situation. No need to send out Dhoni, Kohli or anyone important. Better still, chance to find alternatives for Jadeja and Ashwin.

Just noticed that vijay is not in the squad. What's his injury ?
