Cricket 19 General Discussion

Has anyone found that increasing the Ai difficulty makes them bat worse? I've gone from normal to veteran in an Ashes series and their scores get lower and lower. I've just bowled them out for 117 and it's really disappointing. This included 3 run outs.

Does anyone have any settings suggestions that'll make them bat better?

Bowl worse!!! I think you increase the level to legend for a bit and see how that does or make your bowler harder and move it from e.g. medium to hard or hard to hardest etc.. It’s not great help but there are more guys that have some sliders you can change but I’m not too sure for the AI and run outs seem to crop up in most games in most innings at least a couple times possibly so there’s not a lot to change about for the run outs.

How about we let them get back to work properly then maybe they will resolve it. Probably got other things on their mind at the moment.
From their response it's quite clear that they won't; they're not looking to fix it. But somehow making cutscenes run at 30 fps was a priority...

The categorisation of it as an "issue", rather than potentially sub-optimal design, and the self-entitled demand this "issue" be resolved immediately is baffling.
Also baffling that people constantly fail to understand that it's indeed an issue, and one that needs to be addressed asap as it's stopping users from being able to download any more teams.

In fairness, who needs 198 bats? lol. Maybe next game there'll be a much higher cap. Personally, I think there are far more bigger issues to be resolved and improved upon for the next outing.
I never downloaded a single bat. They came as a package in wasteyouryouth's teams.

Its also restricted on the xbox presumably there is a reason for it.The restrictions were also there in the ashes game.
A reason they never explained. It's most likely console-related so PC users need not to suffer from it.

What's with all the Ai inside edges? Every ball I bowl is an inside edge for 4 at the moment. Look at this nonsense.

I've found turning down AI striker timing, or similar name to it, helps curb that issue

@blockerdave @Langeveldt

Just wondering how you guys skill players? Because I'm hearing they're all overskilled. Is there a system? E.g. player who averages 50+ is rated 90, player who averages 40+ is rated 85.

There are a lot of ways going back to DB17. I think @wasteyouryouth has a system he uses not too dissimilar from many of us 'retro creators'

My tip for batting is to take the first class batting average and the test average and get then get the average of those.

Multiply by 1.8 to be exact or 2 to make it easier and then you have an overall batting base to work with. Someone with a fc class average of 52 but a test average of 32 would at the very leastt average will come out at 42 for starters.

Then multiplied by 2 at the most means his batting rating would start at 84. I fiddle with sliders according to research so long as overall the player batting rating..not the overall..is 84.This is not a strict rule sometimes I just know what player should be because I've played the game long enough now.

Also modern Cricket batting and bowling averages may be slightly inflated compared to old school players so you have to make a judgement call on where to draw the line. However it is good to keep a spreadsheet of similar players, so that you have some sort of consistency. Then tweak ratings according to sources you use. Books, videos web etc.

In addition to this I also have a simple scale of 0 to 10. 1 is All Time Worst. 2 is very poor, 3 is poor, 4 is below average, 5 is average, 6 above average, 7 good, 8 very good, 9 excellent and 10 All Time Great. This way can be quicker.

For example, Joe Root.

Joe Root's combined batting Test and First Class Average is 48. 48 x 2 = 96. So 96 is where I would start. Though Root's career average could drop and when comparing his rating with others whose career's are completed. So in this case I would adjust.

Alternatively or in addition, Joe Root is clearly an excellent player across all formats, so he will be a 9 or somewhere between 9 and 10. Or if you are using multiples of 10 a 90. I would then go to batting ratings.

Some of his ratings are adjusted based on research, but so long as Joe's batting rating is around the 90-95 overall mark, then hes good to go. In this case, I'd keep him at 90 as his averages are slightly inflated due to the era he is batting in.

For bowling I take their bowling average and subtract it from 110. So a bowler with a 30 combined test and fc average for bowling would come out as a base figure of 80 overall for bowling. I then use my 1 to 10 scale and ask is this player an 8 out of 10 or 80 out of 100? When compared to the average professional cricketer?

Let's take All Time Great, Dennis Lillee. His test and FC bowling average is 23. In my formula he would come out as an 87 for bowling. 110 - 23 = 87.

I will then tweak his bars, someone like Dennis will have a Pace Master Gold. I would then look at research to determine his Silver and Bronze. It's possible I would give him a bump in rating depending who I measure him against on my spreadsheet. In this case I would probably bump Dennis up as he lost some years to injury and also Kerry Packer World Series when he was at his peak, playing against other peak players. I'd more likely bump him to 92-94, maybe higher, depending on bench-marking with other pace greats with a similar bowling personality.

So combining the two rating systems work for me and I get very realistic results and averages and strike rates, when playing the game. Always remember to do the research, it can be subtle. There will always be anomalies and it's purely subjective. Research on cricinfo or the cricketer archive or books of course help.

The Gold Perks are good especially as it kind of identifies how the players abilities and confidence are raised or lowers depending on the type of match being played, test, 1 day or t20. The silvers and the bronze do similar and put a bit more flesh on that player will use his skill.

To keep things simple in my universe and I have created over a 1000 players on this version alone I download additional players from mostly the retro crowd.

They are @blockerdave @gleeso73 @DalePlaysCricket @relaxedanderson and @Spoobir.

For modern players @wasteyouryouth. Lately he has playfaced and rated more retro players so hes another goto.

This way I can compare their creations with mine and over the last few years they are rating players overall similar to mine but our methods might be different.

@wasteyouryouth did a project last year I think on Ashes all about this and there was something similar on DB17.

Hope this helps or points you in the right direction.

One thing I noticed when downloading a lot of players for my 80s franchises was a general consensus around ratings. Can't remember which creator it was, but when I came to rating them with my system, the results were very similar. The others were closer than I think you would have seen in older games.

I think this is a consequence of changing from the 100 little blocks to 5 large blocks, a very good change and one I'd support for sliders too.

My system is pretty complex calculations but is ultimately a player's record averaged with a rating (probably similar to yours @Mouseydread) of mine for their level. I want it to work for all players, old and new, and for Virat Kohli to little known associate players. My main aim has always been balance. If you want as many players as possible to be rated in the same way, at similar levels then download my teams. If you don't, don't download them.

I don't believe anyone has done enough testing to say they know what the best way to rate players is. Even records I've kept from the SD Shield is a tiny sample size. 8 matches it'll be by the end and AI v AI so even then it is hard to know how that would translate to AI performance vs human players. And it's only T20.

Fact is getting it right will always be tough. Football Manager have thousands of scouts around the world feeding into their game and you get anomalies, mistakes or players not performing as they would in real life. It might not be the ratings it might be the game.

@GaxGards @Mouseydread @wasteyouryouth

my system is less scientific, more hunch-based and based on an idea that nobody is good enough to be full bar at everything.

I consider towards the end of the 5th bar as “All time great”, the beginning of the 5th bar being “world class”, 4th bar runs from top international back to international/top domestic, 3rd bar good domestic back to journeyman etc.

I’ll also tweak based on what I know of the player. A Robin Smith for example, averaging 43 in an era of great bowlers, great against pace less so vs spin. He’ll be mostly around the end of the 4th and beginning of 5th block. For pulls and cuts he’s nearer the end of the 5th block, for sweeps he’s down in the 3rd block.

if I don’t know a player well I’ll work off their average and a “stereotype hunch” - eg sub continental players I’d generally make better and drives, glances and sweeps than cuts and pulls.

for perks, only the world class and all time greats get a gold, and they also get at least 2 silver. They may or may not get all perks filled with bronze.

Top internationals get 2 silver and a few bronze, internationals 1 silver and a few bronze

journeymen just bronze, not all filled.

I generally come out a little lower on overall rating than others but I think I get good results in gameplay certainly in tests.

I completely avoid having brute bowlers as they bowl huge numbers of bouncer wides.

I always enjoy this topic! @GaxGards @wasteyouryouth @blockerdave

@blockerdave your Robin Smith example is spot on, in my system based on his test average of 43 he would come out for batting as an 86 to work with. 43 x 2. However being a great player of pace with cut and pull, I would do the same as you with the bars.

With his Gold, Robin was a very good test player but probably not a batting master, he could get Test Expert, but he was also a decent ODI. If I gave him Test Expert he may be penalized on ODI. Same as Test Specialist. It is subtle, but great fun.

Finally, the editing in Big Ant games is superb, so we can change what comes out of the box when we buy the games which in Cricket 19 does seem inconsistent for England and Australia compared to the other nations.

I would be intrigues how they rate their players.

I get them very rarely of the time.

Is it just me, or lately the bat foot catches have increased. Don't mind an occasional one, as I understand the bat pad animation might be missing (or weird), but happening quite often. Any workaround the same, have tried moving the right stick in an angular direction, but not defending straight, feels outright criminal

in new patch did u try ??

not really trying, just noticed it happen a few times during career mode the last month and a bit. btw: latest patch as the "newest" patch was quite a while ago.

On pc, the last patch I got was a few months back and it was that bat content one.
