Third time in this series Shreyas Iyer have literally affected the flow of runs creating a passage of play for the Proteas to comeback. And Pant is very much doing the same thing!

Also @LiveLoveABD mate, Shreyas Iyer is proving you right by having one of the best series in his career against Sri Lanka followed by a mediocre performance in this series. Score against weak teams and spinners while struggle against strong teams and pacers.

Come on, he is the best finisher we have currently. Our future captain who won his maiden IPL trophy as captain.
And how many runs did DK score today?

I don't think it would make sense to blame him alone when there are more players failing to deliver. Might sound ironic since I called out Pant & Iyer but those 2 were just mediocre as compared to Hardik!

Should've posted this before the series started.

Ha ha! Yeah.... Well on a serious note - I am becoming a fan of Ruturaj (obviously due to my CSK connection) and I really love the way he can shift the gears and play the T20 game once he's set. Its just that the way he starts his innings, needs to change if he has to compete in this environment. Ishan Kishan continues to boost his portfolio and even today, he batted better than Ruturaj. A good 50 will not be enough for Ruturaj. He needs some exceptional innings in consecutive games to cause a huge splash.

What do India gain from not giving Umran and Arshdeep an extended run in these meaningless bilateral series? If you gain a 150 kph weapon for the T20 WC in Australia in the bargain of losing a pointless series, so be it. No disrespect to Bhuvi, but we know what he brings to the table. If you want to try out options before the WC, you go for the untested ones first, and if all fails, you can always go back to Bhuvi. I fail to see the logic behind this. We play an archaic brand of T20 cricket with no real eye for matchups.

You can't compare U19 with International Cricket. His technique doesn't even suit opening. You can use him as an X-factor for a game or 2 but you can't play him as an opener.

Also you've got to accept that Pant is no longer the player he used to be! I don't blame him but the team management for the way they handled him. They somehow reaped the benefit of him in the longer format of the game but eventually failed to nurture him for where he belonged.

Pant has cemented his place in Tests.

For Limited overs, only rival I can see currently is Kishan but with abundance of openers out there in queue I don't think Kishan will get a chance to open frequently and thus can't cement his place as keeper just yet.

So Pant is the only option. Just let him play at 6 or 7 instead of 4 or 5.

Rahul can bat in the middle, giving us a left-right opening combo in Rohit and Kishan. I do see bright chances for Kishan to play in the XI, even when Rohit and Kohli are around.

Pant to me, is best suited right now for test cricket. I dont think he should be an automatic choice in LOI's

This is somewhere close to how I feel about it. Tbh I am quite impressed with how Sanju is taking up the responsibility off late and is trying to improve every time he takes field. I still want to see Rohit & Rahul open.

But we are again left with too little time to move on from Pant just like it happened with MSD.

As I am typing this, a sudden thought have arrived in my mind. We did almost nothing in these 4 years to prepare for the ODI World Cup. Pathetic!!!
