The One Day Bands Draft

Time to make my late pick:

1752307014502.png
:aus: :bwl: Ryan Harris (21-32 ODI band)

44 wickets @ 18.90 (econ: 4.84, 3 5WI, best 5/19) in 21 ODIs
123 wickets @ 27.59 (econ: 4.92, 4 5WI, best 5/19) in 85 List A matches

Ryan Harris played almost his entire international career while he was at the absolute peak of his powers and it shows in his stats: Harris was arguably the greatest ODI wicket taker of all-time, with his strike rate of 23.43 being the best of any bowler to have sent down 1,000 deliveries in the format. He will be the spearhead of an already highly attacking bowling quintet, and while I had originally planned to take Derek Underwood in this slot, I think the extra fast man might actually be better for my team in the long run.

We’ve got two all time great fast bowlers, we’ve got some more controlled economical spin bowling. So let’s add some mystery spin to this lineup. And there’s not many who produce mystery spinners quite like Afghanistan. And due to that production line, this player has been limited to only 3 ODIs. The leg spinner in question is the talented Qais Ahmad.

:saf: :wkb: Heinrich Klaasen (54-93 ODI band)

2,141 runs @ 43.69 (SR: 117.05, 4 centuries, best 174) and 58 dismissals (51 ct, 7 st) in 60 ODI matches
4,514 runs @ 42.99 (SR: 108.35, 8 centuries, best 174) and 155 dismissals (136 ct, 19 st) in 131 List A matches

Klaasen at his best was one of the biggest hitters ODI cricket has ever seen - and it doesn't get any bigger than his superhuman 174 off 83 balls against Australia which included no fewer than 13 fours and 13 sixes. What's more remarkable is he didn't even arrive at the crease until the second half of the innings, at which point South Africa were stuttering at 120 for three.

Wouldn't it be amazing if we picked a guy who fits the same descriptor for the same band back to back?

:aus: :ar: Travis Head also gives me a spin option, which is handy if nothing else. He'll be my sixth bowler though.
