1 Gbps Broadband

I do not find any reason for fixation with high speed internet :p

For reading emails, forums this speed is more than enough for me.

The real reason for opting even this much high connection was PS3 can run internet and is flash compatible. :p

What about playing online games, streaming video, downloading media? Id want to kill myself if I had to do that on that slow connection ^

1 Mbps is enough for online games and d/l if required. 6 MB/minute is not a bad d/l rate.

Not comparing to 60 MB/minute that you have. :p

What do you mean by "enough"? How can something be "enough" for download. I'd always want to get something faster... so theoretically there is no "enough". :)

sohum added 0 Minutes and 17 Seconds later...

Especially as we move to HD streaming media.

Thing is, that if you count out streaming videos, most download servers are now either capped at their speed or crippled that they can't handle much traffic on one connection (Unless of course you use download managers). I'm talking about sites like Download.com, etc.

That was enough for me. :p
I usually download stuff when I am not using computer (gone to market or sleeping) and therefore I do not get that feeling of why is it taking so long to download or only 2 minutes left come on come on.

How much you paying? Still night U/L or fully unlimited?
I'm taking 1Mbps U/L after April as well.

Rs 999 for 1 mbps unlimited. Originally, it was 512 kbps but a couple of days ago they upgraded the speeds for no extra cost.

Well, most people are different. Higher speeds will mean the net will have more uses than just reading stuff.

For a home user what more use can you ask for. If you talk about downloading stuff from internet, then there is not going to end of it.
We do not have HD TV in India and Hulu.com does not support India.
Video conferencing tools like Skype again do not require more than 256 kbps.
Most product upgrades are not more than 200 MB.
How much You Tube can you watch? It runs smoothly on 512 kbps and having 1 Mbps just allows to play You Tube videos in HD mode.
Since you are student you might download stuff related to your area of interest but is it that big that you would be paying for an upgrade that you will hardly use all the time in entire month. Don't mind but I am from Sales/Finance background so I look at things in terms of ROI. :p

1 Mbps is good enough speed and is certainly high than average speed Indian user get.

pretty good i reckon.

although am thinking of switching to MTNL, now that they have come up with 1MBPS unlimited throughout the day and only 999Rs. whereas in airtel i have to pay 1200rs and get 1MBPS only during 10pm -6 am. :(

not to mention i constantly get SMSes and calls from their call centres bugging me about their so called "REVOLUTIONARY" offers. :doh

I have BSNL and it gives me download speed of 23-29kbps :). It's sufficient for me.

Since moving back to The Netherlands I have a 50 mbps connection! Download a DVD in 8 minutes or something like that!

Don't Curse Bitwa, connections like dutchad's will help people to download TAOC easily ;)
