Rumours are growing that one of the franchise owners is willing to offer Pietersen ?2million to participate over the next three years, a much higher offer than the ?750,000 a year given to Mahendra Singh Dhoni by Chennai.

Having already announced his desire to play in the sub-continental extravaganza, it is unlikely that the Hampshire batsman would turn down the offer and the hope is that the authorities and players can sort out their differences and structure the season to suit all needs, with the Ashes looming on the horizon towards the middle of the 2009 English season.

I think KP will join Rajasthan Royals. Warney is his friend and so far Warney has took all of his countey mates .

EDIT : I forgot Smith is also there :p so noway he will join RR

Hell thats no where higher for KP.
If Dhoni can take 6crore ten for KP it just good not best.

If he was smart, he'd join the Daredevils and give us the middle order batsman that we sorely need.

If I was him, I wouldn't accept the offer. I wouldn't play in the IPL if I was payed ?2,000,000 - the novelty value wore off very quickly and I would much rather be at Lord's today than Eden Gardens.

Thing is Lee the international calendar is going to be re-arranged to accommodate the IPL, so players choosing between IPL and international commitments won't be an issue in the future.

Someone like Pietersen doesn't actually get to choose to play IPL instead of playing for England. The ECB contract sequesters his services virtually at will and there is nothing the IPL can do about it, so they will have to pay him anyway. Players with domestic engagements are also in a similar standing, the IPL just can't command players to turn up.

He's not going to chose his team. The offer was made by Mumbai Indians. He's getting $4 million for three years so it works out at slightly less than what Dhoni is earning for the same period($4.5 million).

You can't just force the Class to turn out in Slog hitting.
Please No KP.

It is interesting that one of the issues the ECB is having with Stanford's 20-20, is the possibility of an injured player playing with an injury and there by putting his Int'l career at risk. Am trying to understand what is the difference with the IPL, can't the same happen to a player, playing the IPL?? Getting injured and thereby putting his Int'l commitment at risk?

They plan to create a window for the IPL, I mean why the double standards? If a player can get hurt in the Stanford 20-20, the same can happen to him in any other such event and put his playing for his country at risk.
Why all this damn politics by the BCCI, MCC and now the ECB!

I have had this debate before with Kev, I believe that we must go past simple definitions and realise that the IPL is more than a simple domestic T20 tournament since it contains a large proportion of the world's talent.

Agreed, I think the IPL had probably done a world of good and now T20 has tactics coming into it and is not just a wild slog.

I am slightly perplexed at to why Kevin Pietersen has been offered so much to play in the IPL. He has potential for a good T20 season, but his record is currently only quite good and certainly not worth a $4million salary - I'd value him at closer to $750,000.
