I am currently doing a current issues on test cricket and 20/20 and i would need feedback from a number of people on what they think about the issue of 20/20 cricket compared to county(4/5day)

There is the issue of 20/20 ruining the history of cricket which is the 4/5 day test cricket although some say that 20/20 cricket has revitalised the game of cricket by introducing more people to the game and more money by increasing the attendance. With the dwindling amount of people who go to test and county cricket these people do have a case.
There is also the issue of 20/20 cricket making the game too commercialised although i can only see this as a good thing.

I would like to know peoples thoughts, and if they think it was a good or bad idea to introduce 20/20 cricket and if you think that test/county cricket is becoming less popular.

I thought it was a bad idea when I first heard about it, but now I think the figures speak for themselves. Anything that puts more money into the game at not just international level but domestic cricket as well, has to be doing something right.

When you add in the fact that people who are either working or at school all week can stop in when it's finished and still catch some cricket it's certainly got a role to play. I also don't think it will make test/county cricket any less popular, as anyone who is a fan of those forms of the game are not suddenly going to stop going and find 20-20 is all the cricket they need. So with that said, any new fans it brings into the game is also more likely to benefit the longer forms of the game.

The only worry I can see is if they do start to play too much 20-20 cricket as merely a way of boosting the bank balance. I don't personally like how much ODI cricket gets played these days, more often than not for financial reasons, so if it went down the same route and it was test matches that were sacrificed I would be dissapointed. Hopefully however the powers that be can utilise their cash cow in the right manner.

These comments annoy me. How can Twenty/20 destroy test cricket? The players play test cricket different to twenty/20's and it;ll always be like that.

Not at all. They are variations of the game that in my view make the game more exciting. Twenty20 is a very quick game, extremenly exciting, however no matter how boring a test match may get, it is a slower variety, not making it too hard for the players. In my view is good there are variations.

Twenty20 gets more people interested in the game than it turns away. Therefore it's good for cricket,it's really that simple

Twenty20 Simply introduced more people into the game. They get more into and progress to ODI's then they find a wanting to watch Tests. The interest brought on from Twenty20 evolves.

20/20 will change normal ODI's moreso than Test Cricket imo...scores of 300+ are very acheiveable these days and will happen more often, batsmen will be less fussed about scoring 6,7,8 runs an over as they will do it often in 20/20's

what you guys think about the attendances? you think as 20/20 gets bigger county and test matches will also increase?
