True that on Ashwin, literally at one time I see him and I was like wasn't he retired and started podcasting? Now he is back again?

I agree on VK role here. He surely has to be there but he needs a support. I have heard good things about someone Umran Malik If I am naming him correctly? Is he potentially a good fast bowler?
Both DK and Ashwin were brought from the dead.

DK was working for Sky Sports and Ashwin had quietly transitioned to his post cricket career on his YT channel

I really start to wonder if this was Dravid's decision of having 'experience' in the lineup. I remember we did the same thing in the 2007 50 over WC which ended so disastrously.

India needs to work on grooming all-rounders, both batting and bowling. Just can't get away with having an eleven of specialist batsmen and specialist bowlers anymore.

Depending on who you consider bowling/batting all rounders, England have :

Stokes
Livingstone
Curran
Moeen Ali

And even Woakes to an extent

That's a hell lot of batting depth

The interesting thing about India, for all the talk of playing more aggressively, they are essentially doing it with the same players who have been playing a different way for a lot of their career. The top seven today had only one different player from the team that lost to Pakistan in the first match of the last tournament. That's probably because Jadeja was injured and for some reason Pant was favoured to DK.

Next World Cup is June 2024
Rohit will be 37
Kohli and Jadeja 35

I don't think age should write you off, especially in T20, but the format is moving forward too quickly for some players to keep up. Just looking at how many players have looked out of their depth. Surely all three of those won't make it to the next tournament. If they do I'd be really worried that the end result would be the same. Jadeja, with his duel skill and death batting seems like he'd be most likely.

Looking at some basic stats from the IPL since 2020:

If they want to energise their powerplay they really need to try Prithvi Shaw. He's got the best strike rate in the first six overs.
I'd also be looking again at Kishan and Mayank Agarwal.
At 3, surely Sanju Samson needs a run. His numbers are similar to SKY's in the IPL, batting at 3.
SKY and Hardik are, for me, two fixtures going forward. Hardik would be the captain - I think he has a good balance of the best qualities of Kohli and Rohit.
If Jadeja can comeback then the one spot is at 6 or 7, can't really find anyone who is making a big case for that position - although some deep diving into stats might help. Ideally you'd want a guy with a high boundary percentage. India needs to find a Tim David.

A few others that might be worth a try in the top order: Tripathi, Patidar and Hooda probably deserves a chance, particularly as he can bowl a bit.

Next IPL could be a big opportunity for some players to push themselves into contention, youngsters like Tilak Varma, if he can improve on last season and others who can try and stand out. Someone like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer might be able to rediscover some form, I'd love to see him in the side but I don't think he's done much to show why he should be.

My worry, as I've said in the past, is that India will not back players with extended runs in the team. Or they will pick the wrong players and want them to perform outside of their comfort zone, or pick the right players but not allow them to play to their strengths.

They need to look at what Suryakumar Yadav has done since he came into the team to see what allowing a player to play to their strengths can do.

Must say watching India get handed a whipping like the little boys they are from the English men was truly satisfying and erased any wanting of an Ind/Pak final.

A couple thoughts to my fellow Indian fans are not to be dismay, some bright spots. Arshdeep seems a phenomenal talent and got a calm demeanor, in the face of constant abuse from the captain he handled himself consistently bowling in the death overs. A true revelation. Kohli returned to form, played a legend of an inns against Pakistan. Takeaways to remove Rohit as captain, dont know who is capable though.

Thanks to all my fans and haters alike who made posting on this WC exciting. Think this wouldve been the first in almost five or so years.

Best of luck to both Pakistan and England in the final, may the best team win.

Royal THUMPING!!!! Woah..... I did expect India to lose the semi final, but in this fashion was really a major surprise! Not that I am feeling bad about it (those days are long gone; I had absolutely ZERO emotion after seeing the final scorecard when I woke up in the morning way after the match ended).

India need an absolute revamp of their T20 setup if they gotta do well in the ICC tournaments, which I still think should have importance and prestige. Hope Rohit has played his final T20I for India and possibly Kohli too. I know Kohli had a very good tournament, but still if we need to look into 2024 for the next edition, we gotta start groundwork from now and Kohli should take collective responsibility and let go of the format so that he can focus on tests and ODI's (in prep for the ODI WC next year). Anyways he is not going to miss out much by retiring from T20I's.

Unless India relax on their policy on "not letting Indian players play other leagues", this will keep happening where other countries will get maximum exposure from IPL while India dont get the needed exposure and feel like they're doing great blasting attacks in IPL while coming up short in T20 WC's. Its understandable that other boards are not revolting yet because they get the pie from each player that they send to the IPL, and now they wont revolt at all because India internationals are coming up short in ICC events because of their lack of exposure.

We need Ishan and Prithvi as openers

Make Hardik captain and Sky/Bumrah vice captain for T20...

SKY will be 34 in 2024. Not who you want as a vice captain. Sanju Samson should be drafted in, and hopefully made vice captain under Hardik.
