Something that strikes me just now is how listless and lethargic the team was in the second innings. I don't remember a single wicket taking opportunity, barely an edge (I count two?) and nothing close to a run-out or anything at all threatening. A few deliveries in Bhuvi and Arshdeep's first overs, Ashwin's first over are the only ones where I can remember the bowling even appearing to be remotely threatening. Hales and Buttler were just too good for us. But they were aided immensely by an Indian side that was devoid of any motivation, passion or attitude wanting to win the game. I wouldn't have been surprised if you told me that these were grade cricketers up against international ones, the difference in quality in the second innings was so jarring.

This might honestly be the most embarrassing performance by a full member in a semi-final game that I can remember in this century. The Australian side that lost to England is the only competitor and I don't think they were hyped to this extent by anyone. They'd been very good in the group stages but they were still an ODI side that hadn't defeated a single full member side in a series months ago prior to the tournament. This Indian side has been hyped up to the moon on the basis of IPL performances and bilateral showings and has failed once again.

I don't think age should write you off, especially in T20, but the format is moving forward too quickly for some players to keep up. Just looking at how many players have looked out of their depth. Surely all three of those won't make it to the next tournament. If they do I'd be really worried that the end result would be the same. Jadeja, with his duel skill and death batting seems like he'd be most likely.

Age is just a number. Just like in a corporate setting, can these players hone their skills to the ever changing game? I have not seen this happen. Indian players since 2013 have been playing conservatively at the beginning and then smack it around the park towards the end. This isn't the need of the hour as was showcased by England.

I'd be worried if either of the 3 make it to the squad in 2024. Jadeja cannot simply waltz back in, as if nothing happened. India did this mistake with KLR walking back in, when they had a decent opening partnership going on the in the bilaterals. Selection based on reputation needs to stop.
If they want to energise their powerplay they really need to try Prithvi Shaw. He's got the best strike rate in the first six overs.
I'd also be looking again at Kishan and Mayank Agarwal.
At 3, surely Sanju Samson needs a run. His numbers are similar to SKY's in the IPL, batting at 3.
SKY and Hardik are, for me, two fixtures going forward. Hardik would be the captain - I think he has a good balance of the best qualities of Kohli and Rohit.
If Jadeja can comeback then the one spot is at 6 or 7, can't really find anyone who is making a big case for that position - although some deep diving into stats might help. Ideally you'd want a guy with a high boundary percentage. India needs to find a Tim David.

A few others that might be worth a try in the top order: Tripathi, Patidar and Hooda probably deserves a chance, particularly as he can bowl a bit.

India should have played them when in form. Pulling them into the squad when they arent in form poses a considerable risk.
Next IPL could be a big opportunity for some players to push themselves into contention, youngsters like Tilak Varma, if he can improve on last season and others who can try and stand out. Someone like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer might be able to rediscover some form, I'd love to see him in the side but I don't think he's done much to show why he should be.
I'd keep Tilak and Iyer for ODIs. India needs to have specialised squads for each format. not that these guys cannot. but they are more in the grafting mould. Iyer and Tilak cannot bash from the word 'go'. If they want someone who can graft runs then they are the perfect foil. Ideally, If Virat exits T20, you can bring in Iyer, but not both. If Iyer is brought in, they ought to look at him for leadership (ODI-definitely)

Rishab Pant has had adequate opportunities. I think he is numero Uno in test matches and India should do well to continue with him in that format. With ODI and T20, Pant simply doesnt give me the confidence that he can.

Among all this 1992 dream, I feel this wc giving me 2003 wc vibe.. then Ganguly led IND looked to be just like this PAK side. Hope they achieve what then IND couldn't against RED hot AUS.

Not really! The then Indian side had lifted its game. Didn't really see that from Pak as they did struggle a bit. Nevertheless, it has been a good run. Efforts have to be lauded here, especially those of Saqlain Mustaq, who I feel has been grossly under-rated.

Looking forth, Pakistan needs to definitely look at sprucing up the middle-order and perhaps giving a bigger role to Shadab. hope it wont be another one-sided final at the MCG on Sunday rain-washed!

95% chance of rain in Melbourne on Sunday and Monday. Gear up for a shared trophy.

England will tie another World Cup Final , go home with the Cup without winning it :grinning::laughter:

He didn’t do any better, did he?

The revisionism around Kohli’s captaincy has been astounding when he’s had arguably better chances to end the streak. Rohit being a flustered figure publicly has somehow meant that everyone seems to forget just how many flaws there were under Kohli’s captaincy.

These <insert runs here>-0 scorecards are becoming a little concerning now. Who's the next team that will do that to us?

New Zealand, because that's who we are playing next

And after that it will be Bangladesh

And others will follow and this will continue, until, Jasprit Bumrah comes back in the side.
