Hang On, I'm An Allrounder
I woke up the morning after we had lost to NSW to the dam post dropping on the door mat, so i decided to get washed up ready for nets. As always i picked up the mail and the newspaper, and chucked it on the table. I got my cup of tea and headed for the TV, picking up the mail as i did so.
Bills, bills, crap, bills, ECB, bills.....Hang on ECB? I opened it and to my suprise it said,
Dear Simon,
We are happy to annouce that you have made it into the 13 man squad who will be facing the touring New Zealand party as a warm up for them. You have been included in the squad due to your bowling abilities, we have certain issues with your batting which we will outline when we meet. The squad which will face New Zealand will be purely made up of younger English hopefuls which will give you, and them a chance. The game is at the Rose Bowl Wednesday night, and it will be a 20/20.
All that remains for me to say is good luck, and i am eagerly awaiting your response to the number at the bottom of the letter to tell us if we should expect you at your home ground facilities for net practise Tuesday (tomorrow) morning.
Oh my god, this is far too much for a player such as me, im getting a run out with England, against New Zealand who will surely place out a full strength squad. I thought i'd blown my chance for Hampshire, but obviously not.
I practically ran to the Hampshire netting facilities, and the first person to see me was Shane Warne, and somehow he already knew. He told me that he'd come into the nets, bowl to me, and bat, and give me crucial information id need to try to be successful, and my word he knows alot.
