Story A Story of A Young Spinner (C2007)

Times Like These Makes Me More Ditermined To Achieve

Well, today was the singlemost best day in my life, Ricky Ponting actually knew my name before meeting him, albeit he said "hey mate, your Simon Burrow," but i wasnt gunna correct a world champion cricketer and say "No, actually Ricky, its Barrow," so i just kept quite, maybe we can have a laugh about it over a drink or two, in my dreams!

I went to sit on the side while listening to him talking about what he thinks about Hampshire and why he decided to join, best thing was i had my Grandmother with me, she wanted to meet "that young lad who does well for England," i guessed by that it would be Kevin (Pietersen) so she came down from Lancashire to meet the team who i was going to be playing for, she always backed me.

While my Grandmother toddled off for a cup o' tea and a buscuit i got to talking with Ian Blackwell and Ricky Ponting, they seemed quite good guys. Ricky Ponting had this confidence about him which rubbed off on me by the time i got into the nets that afternoon. I was hitting balls nice and straight and middling every one of them, but the ball was coming out of my hand the best ive ever felt it do. I was sure that tomorrow i could get some kind of decent score and amount of Wickets!

Anyways today has been great, ive talked to a childhood hero, and ive also had my Grandmother with me pestering the guys, KP even walked away after all the questions he quized him with, but i dont mind, my names in the first 12 for tomorrows game against Notts!

Thanks to Gamer, Ben, Jazz and Suren for thier comments, id say keep them coming in, i am updating a few more times today as i am trying to get right into the story before i go back to college :D

Nice story Simo, really nice layout, and a unique diary story in that you are so lucky! :D Looking forward to more updates.

Im In The Squad, And Bowling On My Kinda Track!

As Shaggy (Shaun Udal) said when i arrived this morning, this is a spinners dream! The ground is hard, abbrasive and the ball will age very quickly, which gives me chance to get hold of the ball when its still fairly hard. The overhead conditions are brilliant and will aid much drift if i bowl round the wicket to a right hander.

I was in the dressing room with Nic (Pothas) and Tremlett when Warne turned up and put up the team sheet. I was amazed i was in the squad and that i was about to be captained by no other than Ricky Ponting as a one off! It cant get much better.

I certainly had my bowling boots on in the nets, and the ball was flying out of my hand at a good pace and generating lots of rotations, i cant wait to see what damage i get on the field!

The Debut Begins!

The Atmosphere was electric, all the lads were ready for this. It felt great making my way to my fielding position, 3rd Man, but i suppose i have to do the boring donkey work before i can get near the action.

It got 19 overs in with Notts going well, only 1 wicket down for near 100 runs. Ponting runs up to me during change over and tells me im on next, my nerves shot through the stands, i couldnt believe it. I stretched up, especially my side which had put me out of the England Youngsters 20/20 clash which they lost badly at. My side was still sore but i could bowl, so i was happy.

3rd ball into my over, it (the ball) spins madly towards the stumps, missed the edge of Hussy's bat, and narrowly misses Offstump, i was gutted to say the least!

First Wicket!

My first County Cricket wicket came thanks to Bicknell who at his own standards gave his wicket away too easily. He spooned a fullish length ball straight down the throat of Mid off!

This was a cracking catch by Tremlett!

Do A Lil' Dance

Smith must have hated giving his wicket away like this, to a spinner.

They started to score heavily, especially W.Smith who had been smacking me round a fair bit so i decided to go back to some of my old childhood bowling of over the wicket, Slow Left Arm, which i bowl as my Doosra, but it worked. Id sent the first 3 deliveries just behind his pads to try to drag him a little further towards the right so i had a decent view of Off-stump, but ended up bowling him. He advanced down to wicket to a quicker on of mine, and unfortunately for the umpires, the Off-stump almost came out of the ground.

I celebrated it like id got my 10-for when infact it was my 2nd wicket.

Im not too bothered about my bowling as i see myself as a batsmen who can bowl. My batting hasn't really advanced up to professional level as id hoped but me and the coaches are giving it time, im sure it'll come and when it does im sure it'll bring the triple century, hmmm im wishing and dreaming far too much :p
