Android Phones

Get a Moto Milestone Matt, if a keyboard is that necessary to you. Because I don't really like the Dext, I don't think it even has Android 2.1 by now, forget abotu 2.2 in the future.

I would, but it's a bit out of what I want to pay per month ($44/$49), I use minimal calls/texts per month so don't want to be putting huge amounts into my phone. Only really use the smartphone parts for the organiser, web access and email.

Oh man, stay away from the Pre. Absolute garbage. A bunch of my friends have em and they are horrid

Oh ok... but is a keyboard a necessity? Otherwise you could look at Samsung Galaxy i5700, super phone!

Anyone use the HTC Aria? How is the phone? Is it good? AT&T keeps sending me ads about the phone on my mail, and one of the recent ads caught me attention. I am quite liking the sound of it.

Yeah, my fingers are too kludgey to rely on typing on a touch screen alone. I make a fairly high number of errors typing on my E63 as it is, the physical feedback is really only what makes typing on there remotely possible.

I'm someone very picky about having a keyboard that is just right, I went through a bunch of them on my PC before finally getting an IBM one after using one at a job, I just couldn't go back to the MS keyboard I had at the time.

Hmm, that is right, but Android's keyboard is one of the best, and the capacitive screen + multi touch (for phones who have it) make it almost easy to type on it, after the initial 5-10 days of use, especially in the landscape mode when the keys become very big. I suggest you look at some videos. You can try the HTC Aria too.

Not found typing too difficult in touch screen. And then there are apps also which enhances the experience further.

I'm not sure if they've got it on the Galaxy S, but my Omnia II has swype which makes touchscreen typing really easy and fast.

I wouldn't call it error-free but it certainly does an exceptional job, and is way faster than any other touchscreen keyboard.

Swype beta is there for android phones. :yes

Sounds nice. I've seen some YouTube videos of people typing on the Android Keyboard (without swype) with ridiculous speed, which made me think whether he had fast-forwarded the video in that particular section. :p If I could type that fast I don't think I'd need Swype, but then faster is always better!

It depends. Xperia had horrible typing earlier but they fixed the issue with firmware releases and now its very good. Plus predictive words help as well so you do not need to type as fast as You Tube video guys.

Have you checked out Motorola Devour? Has the best keyboard in my experience. Also, I used to have the same reservations about the virtual keyboard but, and maybe this has to do with the way Android's virtual keyboards are, I hardly ever use my hardware keyboard on my Milestone anymore. You get used to it pretty quick. Not to mention you're able to install third party vitua-keyboard's on an android phone as well.
