Andy Bichel

Shows you how desperate we were back the for an all rounder :) Who could forget his remarkable comeback to make the world cup.

And he performed bloody well on his return. Wasn't that we were desperate it's just that other attempts (Harvey, S Lee) were total failures. So they went for an elder statesman who always performed at state level. He was excellent for us in the 99CWC.

bichels history also reflects the depth of australian cricket, as like many other players(macgill, hodge) they would have had long test careers had they been in any other country. All these players are world class, but the problem is that the team they are trying to make is also filled with the best of the best.

Thats just how it goes when your team is top of the world. Here's hoping more of the same in the future. Perhaps another Bichel will pop up somewhere.

Ian Harvey and Shane Lee weren't the greatest, but they weren't total failures. Harvey had the most deadly slower balls, able to take wickets on the easiest batting wickets.

Harvey was the all rounder we were looking for. Just his batting wasn't quite there. Shane Lee was quite good, I don't remember much of his bowling but he like his brother has one hell of a hit.

S Lee was a bowling all rounder. Has good OD bowling stats: 48 wkts @ 25.93, Econ 4.37, S/R 35.54. Not too shabby at all. Career really cut short by knee problems although he seemed to have gone out of favour with the national selectors towards the end of his career.

Bichel is averaging 50 with the bat and 19 with the ball this season. Give him another run, he'll do a better job than bloody Stuart Clark, Bracken or Watson, and considering what the selectors will end up doing to those three, Bichel should last longer as well.

Bevan was averaging 100 with the bat yet the selectors still didn't pick him. So Bichel could have 100 average with the bat and 1 average with the ball and still not get picked.

Well, why not give brett lee more chances with the bat?? India did it with pathan. Why not send him up at 3 or sumthin?? Same with warney. They could groom allrounders!! Lee is a deadly batsman and showed his potential in the Ashes!

What a performance from bichel! He's a great allrounder for his age!! Fantastic!

@cman, i fully agree with your post!

Warne is one of those guys that needs to get in. He looks very suspect to the new ball. Plus he is too old now to try to solve our all rounder problem.

Lee on the other hand has the age, and a very good technique. He could be worth a shot. The problem is who would you drop down the order? Ponting will never move from 3, Martyn would never give up his number 4 spot and his replacement for the NZ series Hodge is the same. Symonds, Clarke and Hussey are already too low as it is.

Ponting has to move. He has to groom lee! The whole team has to bat one slot lower than usual for lee to come in and bat at 3! you have to experiment!
