Arsenal have confirmed the signing of English defender Micah Richards from Man City for a "club record" undisclosed fee since the arrival of Mourinho. The 20-year-old 5ft 11ins defender, who has been capped eleven times by England, has signed a four-year contract.

Micah Richards had been on the verge of making the move to Gunners for a number of weeks before becoming Jose Mourinho's fourth signing since replacing Arsene Wenger.

Gunners had been expected to pay around £14.6million for the defender, who scored only once for the Eastlands club in sixty-nine appearances.

Mourinho told the club's website: "He's a big talent and a young man with a big future. A lot has been said about him and there was a big expectation on him coming out of Man City. So with the success he's had I think it's a real coup that we've been able to bring him to the club. He's a big guy, in stature and in ability, so I think everybody will enjoy watching him play."

Micah Richards made his debut against Arsenal on 22 October 2005 coming as a substitute . He made his full debut in February next year against Charlton . Since then he has played the majority of Man City's matches and was named club's Young Player of the Year for the season 2005-06.

Richards scored his first and only goal for Man City against Aston Villa in the FA Cup fixture in the 94th minute to earn his side a replay . After wards he has became the integral part of the City defence and was once rumored to join Mourinho at Chelsea for about £15m.

Richards made his international debut in November 2006 against Netherlands and since then has featured eleven times and scored once in the EURO 2008 qualifying against Israel .

Richards would be officially unveiled on the 1st of January 2009 at the Emirates stadium .

Yeah this is a great signing. A rock solid defender with his whole career ahead of him.

Match Report : Inter 0 Arsenal 1

(Gunners celebrate important win)

Roque Santa Cruz's deflected first-half strike was enough to give Arsenal victory over Inter Milan. Inter went close after only 12 seconds when Zlatan Ibramovich's shot whistled past the post, before Emmanuel Adebayor shot straight at Julio Ceasr from 12 yards. Gunners began to look dangerous down the flanks and from Mikael Silvestre's cross, Santa Cruz bundled in via Marco Materazzi.

Inter's best efforts came after the break but Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibramovich saw their shots saved comfortably. Inter Milan might have lacked any real cut and thrust but boss Arsene Wenger will take some consolation that their performance was better than the one that saw them thumped 3-0 by city rivals AC Milan last week.

Wenger brought in left-back Javier Zanetti in a move designed to shore up the defence. Yet it was the hosts who almost struck first when Zlatan Ibramovich rode a challenge before cracking a shot from 15 yards which zipped off the wet turf and was inches wide of the post.

Soon, though, Gunners began to dictate the play, pulling Inter Milan - and particularly Ibramovich - out of position. Emmanuel Adebayor made space in the box but hit his shot straight at Julio Cesar, and shortly after the Brazil keeper kept out a swerving Cesc Fabregas free-kick.

Adriano and Hernan Crespo were playing their first game together of the season at San Siro and they almost combined to get Crespo in, but Silvestre nicked the ball of the former Chelsea man's toes when he about to shoot. Back came Gunners and when they worked the ball inside Ibramovich, for the second time in a few minutes, Silvestre crossed from the left and Santa Cruz's effort went scrambled in off Materrazi as Walter Samuel failed to hook it off the line.

Gunners might have led 2-0 at the break, but Adebayor fired a shot just wide after he had superbly made space with an excellent first touch and turn on the edge of the box. An hour of the game had been played before Inter Milan forced Igor Akinfeyev into his first save, beating away substitute Suazo's vicious drive. The slicker passing, more incisive movement and more dangerous play continued to come from Arsenal after the break, as it had in the opening 45 minutes.

However, the visitors seemed content to sit on their lead as the half wore on and as Inter crept forward, Akinfeyev had to be alert to keep out Ibramovich's swirling shot. But with the game compressed into he middle third, and Inter short of ideas, chances were few and far between.

Despite playing within themselves Arsenal always seemed more likely to add to the scoring but Aaron Ramsey's shot wide from distance and then lofted a free-kick into the arm of Julio Cesar. With this result it means that the Gunners need just one point to qualify for the the knockout stages of the Champions League .

*Arsene Wenger

"I thought it was a very even game up until they scored. The way the first half went, I was well pleased. We have three or four players who haven't played together at all and it was nice to see them combining. The work rate was much better today and you couldn't fault the effort. I thought we played okay."

*Jose Mourinho

"We played some excellent football tonight. This is a difficult place to come, so it is a bonus to come here and win. We tried to play a system where the players would be comfortable. We wanted to have Rosicky playing centrally, close to Adebayor. We let Fabregas control the game, and used Samir Nasri's energy. We are almost qualified and that will remove some pressure from us now ."

Fantastic win away at Inter. About time you got a clean sheet, and a against great opposition as well!

Great win. Just some mistakes though, Arsenal are The Gunners, not Gunners. And you said Van Der Sar in that report. But other than that, great work, KIU. :thumbs

Match Report : Arsenal 2 Everton 1

(Adebayor celebrates his important equaliser)

Arsenal left it late to snatch victory over Everton after they had fallen behind as a result of goalkeeper Igor Akinfeyev's horrendous error. With only 90 seconds gone, Akinfeyev made an awful mess of clearing Gael Clichy's backpass and Esclapez tapped in.Akinfeyev then had to watch his opposite number Stefan Wessels produce countless fine saves to keep Arsenal at bay. But Emmanuel Adebayor smashed home a penalty on 84 minutes before Kolo Toure slotted in a last-gasp winner.

It had looked to be Everton's afternoon for so long before the late strikes as Wessel - a last-minute replacement for Tim Howard, who picked up an injury in the warm-up - was outstanding. In the first half, he made fine stops from two low Tomas Rosicky shots, which had the keeper scrambling across goal, and saved his best to deny Nasri and Rosicky when both were clean through.

And as the first period drew to a close, Wessel came rushing out of his goal to use his legs expertly to prevent Cesc Fabregas putting the final touch to a superb Nasri through-ball. Later, Sanat Cruz felt he should have had a penalty when Phil Neville appeared to trip him but his appeals were waved away.

Everton, too, had a shout for a penalty when Tim Cahill fell in the box - although replays showed he clipped his own foot rather than any part of Toure. Earlier, Everton might have made it 2-0 from open play when another error from Akinfeyev led to the ball squirming out of his grasp. It landed at the feet of Esclapez but the Russian managed to scramble the ball clear.

By contrast, Wessel could do no wrong and he made another outstanding stop immediately after the break when Rosicky raced clear. And Arsenal might have been punished seconds afterwards when Mikel Arteta found himself free in the box but he could only direct a fizzing shot straight at Akinfeyev.

Still, Everton - complete with five new faces in their line-up - were on course to clinch a big scalp on their travels and get their first away victory of the season, especially as Wessel refused to be beaten, this time throwing himself at the feet of Roque Santa Cruz. And it appeared to be the same old story for Arsenal as Rosicky missed another chance, this time Joseph Yobo providing the block.

Then Gareth Barry whistled a free-kick wide of the post as Everton survived another assault on their goal. On came Aaron Ramsey and, later, Theo Walcott as Arsenal brought on more of their attacking options.

However, a surging run from Kolo Toure was stopped illegally by Joseph Yobo and Emmanuel Adebayor belted in the spot-kick to give Arsenal hope. Remarkably, six minutes later, Kolo Toure twisted and turned in the box before angling a low drive into the bottom corner to hand Arsenal what had looked an unlikely result.

*Jose Mourinho

"We were strong mentally and physically - this team is resilient. It was a test because we made it difficult for ourselves in the second minute. Igor Akinfeyev is the happiest person in the dressing room now as the team hasn't had to pay for his mistake. Everton played well but we wanted it so much we managed to win the game."

* David Moyes

"We feel very hard done by. I felt we were good value for our lead. We told Esclapez that Arsenal keeper Igor Akinfeyev can be erratic under pressure and he chased him down and did well to get his goal. I was disappointed by the way Arsenal's equaliser came - they had three claims for penalties and then their fourth appeal for a penalty was given."

Match Report : Arsenal 4 Derby 1

Vela%20celebrates.JPG

(Carlos vela scores a winner to defeat Derby County)

Arsenal came from behind to avoid a Carling Cup embarrassment at home to Championship strugglers Derby County.Derby led early on when Paul Peshisolido headed in Ryan Smith's corner.Robin van Persie headed a controversial equaliser and the Derbyshire team were reduced to 10 men when Giles Barnes was shown a second yellow card late in normal time.A header from substitute Emmanuel Adebayor put Arsenal ahead before a Santa Cruz tap-in and a fine strike from Carlos Vela eased Jose Mourinho's worries.

Paul Jewell's men gave an early indication of their threat when Howard fizzed a long-range effort over the bar. They grabbed the opener - and their first away goal of the season - when Ryan Smith swung over a set-piece and Peshisolido stooped at the near post to head into the roof of the net, despite Alexandre Song's efforts on the line.

It got worse for Mourinho when he was forced into an early change following a head injury to Gavin Hoyte, who had clashed with Giles Barnes.Carlos Vela found a yard of space before the break and curled an effort against the crossbar - but it did not stop the shouts of abuse from the stands as the hosts went into the dressing room.

Mourinho sent his men out early but the visitors continued to attack and it took a clearance from Fran Merida to prevent a Ryan Smith cross from causing danger. van Persie grabbed the equaliser 15 minutes from full-time but Derby claimed the ball was out of play in the build-up.

Fran Merida was allowed to get his cross in from the right and van Persie headed in at Stephan Bywater's near post. Derby County's Barnes was dismissed for his second bookable offence on the stroke of full-time and the Gunners went in front in the 10th minute of extra-time, with Vela nodding back across goal and substitute Adebayor heading in. Santa Cruz then tapped in at the far post after Santa Cruz had flashed a shot across goal, before fellow youngster Vela cut in and fired a fourth from outside the box.

*Jose Mourinho

Well its was a tight game but later we dominated and won the game . We need to improve our attack in the reserves and that is an important thing to do . But I happy with the win and cant wait to know who we play next ."

* Paul Jewell on Giles Barnes

"It was a scandalous, ridiculous decision. It cost us the game. Our performance did not deserve the referee spoiling the game for us but you don't get those kind of decisions at places like this."

Match Report : Arsenal 2 Inter 3

_42599427_cambiasso_afp220.jpg

(Cambiasso celebrates very late winner)

Esteban Cambiasso's dramatic stoppage time strike gave Arsene Wenger a emotional win over Arsenal at the Emirates .The Argentine's neat pass set up Adriano to score Inter's first and then Ibramovich headed in Muntari's outswinging corner for the second. But just at the end of the first-half Cesc Fabregas's header reduced the deficit when he guided in a free-kick.Ramsey turned the ball in from close range to equalise for the Gunners, but Cambiasso had the last word with a raking shot.

Last week Inter had been defeated by a lone goal from Santa Cruz at the San Siro. This time Inter to the revenge and Arsene Wenger took all three points from his fomrer home ground the Emirates.Inter Milan were ruffled by Arsenal's dynamic second-half performance and until Cambiasso's late intervention Jose Mourinho's side looked destined to come away with at least a point.

Arsenal's spirit was encapsulated by Fabregas, who had scored only one league goal this season before this match, but single-handedly terrorised the Inter Milan defence.Inter must be wondering why they had to leave it so late to win this game given their almost total control of the opening period.

Stankovic, who was preferred to Cluade Makelele, had two reasonable chances to score before Adriano gave Inter a 12th-minute lead. The Serbian midfielder first tested Manuel Almunia with a flicked effort after he collected a long pass from Maxwell. Stankovic then got on the end of a rapier-like Inter counter-attack inspired by Adriano and Cambiasso.

Stankovic's stabbed effort sneaked under Almunia's glove to hit the post, but the Arsenal goalkeeper beat the Inter striker to the rebound. But Inter were not to be denied for much longer. There seemed little danger as Cambiasso lurked on the edge of the box, but the Argentine conjured up a wonderful reverse pass to leave Adriano in acres of space with just Almunia to beat. This time Almunia was unable to do keep the ball out, as Adriano crashed a shot past the Arsenal goalkeeper.

In the 30th minute Ibramovich was the first to the ball following a Muntari corner and his header was too strong for Almunia as he made it 2-0. Arsenal came back into the game towards the end of the first half and Fabregas's header revived the home side's hopes. Fabregas won the free-kick, tempting Walter Samuel into a rash challenge, and the former Barcelona midfielder then got to Tomas Rosicky's set-piece delivery before Maicon.

Immediately after the restart Adriano uncharacteristically passed up an opportunity to restore Inter Milan's two-goal lead, when having left a couple of Arsenal defenders on their backsides the midfielder fired wide. Inter were left to rue that miss when Ramsey was on hand to direct the ball into the roof of the net after Samir Nasri turned back Gareth Barry's cross from the right. In a frenetic finale Almunia did well to tip over Marco Materazzi's header, but the Arsenal goalkeeper could do nothing about Cambiasso's left-footed shot.

* Jose Mourinho

" I have never been at the end of such a heart breaking end . But we showed a lot of character to come back in after being two nil down . We still have 2 matches to go and we need just a draw to qualify ."

*Arsene Wenger

" Its really good to come over here and win the game . It was nice to see many supporters supporting me when I arrived . We didnt play that good . We should have finised the game of when we had a two goal lead but we gave two useless goals ."
