Anyone want to share a batting strategy or two?

I have just got the game on PS2 and my batting leaves a lot to be desired.

I basically have two general strategies.......

1) Any ball pitched on the stumps when the bowler has full confidence gets blocked, cos I aint quick enough to change my stroke type IF the cpu changes the length, (from a short ball to a yorker........ or vice versa)...................and,

2 ) I get right in line to where the ball will pitch with the intention if playing a straight drive....then hope that I am quick enough to change the aiming thumbstick to leg or off side if there is any ball movement.

Bowling isn't a problem...and I even manage to hold onto the occasional catch with that infernal "catchometer" thingy.

Can anyone give me any tips? Because at the moment this game is rather two dimensional!!!!!!

:crying

instead.. y dont you try playing straight for such deliveries. as far as i know.. playing straight is the only safe option when you try to score off yorkers.

and by my experience CPU uses much less bouncers from special delivery than yorkers.. so playing straight isnt that bad a choice...

Rest,

1) Hit in those directions where fielders arn't placed at boundaries.. means usually u can beat fielders in 30 yard circle.. so once its outside that area.. u wont want any fielder to throw it back to stumps.

2) Look for inswingers when bowled from the edge of the crease... they get into you more than usual even when bowled as a straight delivery... the best way to play such deliveries is playing on leg-side.

3) Square cuts rarely beat the fielders(as compared to other shots) when hit along the ground.. so try play cover drives more.

mm.. thts all i could recall... lemme know if you have troubles facing any particular delivery!!

Some interesting comments MuchMore. I have only had the game a few days, so I am still getting used to gameplay nuances ang glitches/bugs.
(One being the straight drive that hits the stumps at the bowlers end without being touched by a fielder...running out the off strike batsman who tries a quick single)!!!

Sweep shots are currently causing me all sorts of problems. Do they have to be played behind of square?....or is it possible to sweep/reverse sweep to say midwicket or the covers?

I suppose that the skill in batting is getting yourself "set" for a particular stroke.......but being aware of alternate shots that can be played if the ball does move AND having your thumb/fingers ready to execute the shot in good time.........I need to be able to instinctively choose the right button...I am currently trying to work out what button is needed...and playing some shots too late. (Like playing the advance shot to a fast bowler....missing the ball....and forgetting to press the button to make my ground again).

Enjoyable game though. Lets see how long I manage to play it!!!

wow.. I still haven't experienced that as yet!!

well.. Sweep Shot... as they say is a "effective but risky" shot... and usually is played behind square...

Sweeping in front of square is acceptable on leg side .. but in covers is quite innovative!! anyways... in this game... u can sweep all round the park!! but why not keep it realistic. :p

now that can be achieved only by practice(of not more than a day's play).. still for being on the safer side.. try playing grounded shots when changing your mind at the last moment.

I do try to keep it realistic...it doesnt help however when a delivery that is pitched a little short of a length just off leg stump gets a rather ungainly cross bat "hoik"..when in my in my minds eye I see me playing a classy and graceful leg/hip glance down to the fine leg boundary.

The pull shot/hook isn't one of the best motion captured shots in the game.

Most of the other shots look superb....especially on replay when you see your perfectly timed work of art heading to the boundary.

well.. thats possible in this game as well.. try using "defensive shot" button with direction keys towards leg. (am not too sure about this one though.)

I will get in the nets today and try out as many batting permutations that I can think of.
I think that pressing the defensive shot button plays the regulation forward/backfoot defence stroke...irrespective of thumbstick direction.

Yeah........that sounds like a good idea to me. Wait for the missus to go shopping with her mother and have myself an afternoon of gameplay bliss trying out batting permutations;)

By the way you post in here MuchMore, you seem to talk about the game in the past tense!!

Like.....you sound like you have the game and either don't play it now...or had the game and now speak from previous experience.

Either way...I don't mind......just keep posting your pearls of, (BLIC 07) wisdom here....they are very much appreciated:hpraise

Batting sussed.
Currently playing 20 over innings games.
I can guarantee myself 10-15 runs per innings without playing a stroke!!!
The only fielder who can regularly run you out is the geezer at mid off...the rest of the fielders can be neutralised with adept running skills.
Full batting confidence is a double whammy....you can play an effective advance down the wicket shot, and keep "on top" of the bowlers..or even a slightly misstimed stroke on full confidence seems to get edged into a space.

Movement into the batsman is exaggerated...allowing you to either get inside the line for a stroke to the offside..or get outside the line to allow a shot into the on side.

No balls are called nice and early.....allowing you to have a smash n grab shot.

Batting on Test level is slightly more difficult due to the fact that the bowlers bowl with more subtle variations of speed and ball flight movement...I always get slightly inside the line, (to play straight'ish) but this allows placement to the off or on side if there is any ball movement.

Slog and village modes are a waste!!!

The graduation of levels should be....

1) County.
2 )Test.
3 ) Come and have a go if you think you are good enough!!
4 ) Current world class......like you need to THINK that you are as good as the current World
Champions of that particular time ........in the hope that they give you a game!!!

Sounds perfect for my big headed ways on BLIC :D

And the timing this is really annoying, i neither have time to work out whats going on, be it keeper catch or outfielder :p

But its the best we've got, so ill stick with it ;)

Strangely but i have sort of mastered the fielding and catching timings.

lol.. no real wisdom about it!!

Ya, I have played this game enough and now I'm back to its EA version... the reason being this game is too easy to enjoy once you have played it for a week.

And its good to hear that you are improving.. and by my experience it wont be long when you will master those fielding meters.

I have only played this game because my nephew had downloaded it for me and I must say, I was very dissapointed. I play Test matches on this game that last one day.

I can bowl out the opposition for less then a hundred runs, just through bowling them and getting LBWs. This is because Iam not yet fast enough to catch a batsmen out with those ludicorous meters.

Batting is so easy, much easier then the EA counterpart. Iam capable of scoring at 20+ an over. Much to my dislike, I feel like I might have to just erase this game and go back to my EA Cricket 07 for some Test match enjoyment.
