BBL time!

Strikers vs Scorchers, Australia Day. Who could make themselves the hero this time? It wouldn't be Wes Agar as he was rested for Conway.

Roy and Livingstone got Perth off to a fast start. They put on 56 off five overs before Roy took on an ambitious single and was run out with a direct hit from Weatherald. Munro came out, got a sighter with a wide, hit a six, and missed a full and straight one from Worrall. Inglis and Livingstone got together for a little bit before Livingstone tried a hit too many and was caught at cover. Marsh tried to hit Rashid Khan into Victoria and only got a top edge, before Turner played all around a Conway ball. Inglis carried on and indeed carried Perth to 120 with some fine hitting.

Guess who had the best figures...

Phil Salt got going pretty well initially but Carey didn't. He was LBW to Agar in the fourth over, with Salt having faced most deliveries. The innings kept ticking over, with the Bash Boost gained with two balls to spare, until Agar returned. He got Salt clipping to mid wicket, and then pinch hitter Rashid LBW. Renshaw then went the next over, leaving Wells and Weatherald in. They kept going hard, taking 16 from the second last over, before Tye bowled a quiet over. However, it proved to be a task that the batsmen were up to with two sixes in the last over giving Adelaide the win.1612299667303.png

Weatherald got MOTM for his game defining innings.

No doubt this was a tricky pitch to bat on, so while 50 (48) may initially look bad, it was the stabilising influence the innings needed, and allowed late shotplaying from Warner and Madsen to push the score to 160.

Seems like OG CS09 heard its days were numbered and saved something spectacular for late: Orlando were left an astonishing 8/13 before Fabian Allen recovered the innings to a semblance of competition.

Atlanta Legend - 163/1 in 20.0 overs.
Orlando Storm - 111/10 in 16.2 overs.

Atlanta Legend wins the match by 52 runs

After the early dismissal of Whiteman, the Brits Wessles and Kohler-Cadmore went absolutely wild, a two hundred run partnership (the first of the tournament's history).

A very good batting performance. Charlotte don't have the biggest names but, particularily in the last few games, they have performed.

New York are the opposite. Sidenote: Howell's 5/49 is the most expensive 5-for in all of T20 cricket

Charlotte Giants - 194/3 in 20.0 overs.
New York Queens - 130/10 in 19.0 overs.

Charlotte Giants wins the match by 64 runs
MOTM: Howell (5/49)

Renegades-Thunder!
Thunder unchanged, Renegades take the opportunity to include the newly available Imad and Pattinson.
1612729961542.png

Aaron Finch continued his stellar BBL campaign yes ironic with a great 56 today. He was given support from Harper until he tried to hit Sams across the NSW border and missed, and then from Marsh until he missed a slog sweep in the eighth over trying to accelerate. Indeed the Thunder's tactic of using spin late was effective, as Finch fell in the 9th. However a couple of late boundaries pushed the Gades to 118.
1612730307296.png
1612730488788.png

This was not as close as it looks. The Thunder needed 34 from the last over and got 25 of them. The Thunder were hamstrung by bad batting/bad luck for the top order. Khawaja was the first to go, misreading a Richardson cutter which clipped off stump. Ferguson hit one six from Lalor but then picked extra cover with his next ball. Hales made it three wickets in three overs when he swung at a Imad arm ball and missed. Billings and Ross continued to push until, with 24 needed from 5 for the BB point, Billings holed out to Imad at long on. Ross was then run out the next over from a direct hit at mid on, and when Will Sutherland was brought on, he got Cutting to pick Lalor at deep mid wicket. Sams and Tremain swung and actually got a few away but nowhere near enough. An unusual feature of the last over was a five- four overthrows among them- for Green.

The Renegades are now clear on top.

Hurricanes play Stars today, for the first time of two in three days!

Having seen Mac Wright have prior success with his bowling and allrounder Keemo Paul get injured, the Canes elected to bring in Colin Ingram for him and play just four bowlers. Stars picked their expected lineup.
1612902831593.png

Now I missed the screen for this but I do remember the scores. The Stars stuttered early; Stoinis who looked good was bowled by Meredith for 9 (4), and Fletcher 2 (3) and Larkin 14 (9) failed. That brought together Maxwell and Maddinson, and Maddinson played well to support the hard charging captain. Sandeep in particular was bludgeoned. Mac Wright came in and got the big wicket of Maxwell chipping back to him, but a couple of lusty swings by Pooran (12 (4)) and Cartwright got the score to 5/129 as well as Maddinson going bananas.
1612903117342.png
Mac Wright was again the best Cane.
1612903187467.png

The Canes were a little less successful in every respect but getting the scorecard captured correctly. THe rot began after four consecutive air swings from Handscomb, the fourth hitting leg stump. Short and Malan recovered before both went too hard chasing the bash boost point, leaving Hobart 3/27. McDermott and Ingram got going and for a moment looked like they would steer Hobart to an unlikely win, but just as they were getting back into it, Ingram sliced a straight swing to a particularily straight long on. Wright failed with the bat as opposed to the ball and while Tim David got a couple away off Hatcher, not only was it consolation, but Hatcher won that battle too.
1612903282913.png

1612903419620.png

Ultimately for the Canes only McDermott, Ingram and Wright performed to their capabilities and it showed in the end result.

Okay, so, I forgot to put this up yesterday...

Dan Lawrence is Joe Denly, I haven't added him yet
Heat and Sixers both changed one bowler.
1613248366757.png

The Sixers looked like they were stumbling at the halfway point. After a good start from Hughes and Philippe, Philippe top edged an attemped six and he picked mid wicket. The sixers lost 4-22 then- Vince was knocked over straight away by a faster ball from Steketee, Hughes picked Denly at cover, and Henriques sliced the ball straight back to Christian leaving the BB point target at 4/52. Silk then was out for a golden duck... but not before Christian took 16 from the 6th over. Christian played a blinder to send the innings back in the right direction, with some assistance from Brathwaite and Dwarshuis, he got the score to 6/114. A couple of harsh wide calls were notable in this innings.
1613248718436.png
Ben Laughlin got targeted...
1613249280513.png

The Heat had to cope both with a big total and the failure of Chris Lynn to get going before he missed an extravagant swing off O'Keeffe. However, they could not be unhappy with their next two batsmen. Bryant and Burns combined scored 90 from 44 deliveries. However, Bryant top edged a Christian bumper to Philippe, and Denly couldn't score off the final ball (in fact getting run out) meaning Super Over.
1613249395914.png

As for the Super Over... it was depressing

Scorchers- Renegades!

1613334565071.png

The Scorchers made a decent start despite Livingstone struggling and picking Finch with a drive, as Roy recuperated the runs by hitting 19 from Zak Evans' over. However Evans got Munro with a full straight one from his final delivery, which sparked a bit of a collapse. Roy went just as hard against Nabi, but ended up hitting one boundary and then whacking one to Zak Evans at long on. Marsh was then stumped the next delivery. Turner negotiated the hattrick ball, but at the other end, Inglis was run out by the bowler. The Ashtons came together effectively, with Turner hitting hard and Agar providing support, to hoik the total to 108.
1613334894202.png
Lalor didn't end up getting a second over, likely because of the lack of swing in Sutherland's second. However that means he'll surely have the best one-innings economy in this series
1613335310408.png

The Scorchers would have backed themselves to defend the total. They were unfortunate to run into Sam Harper and Aaron Finch on hot form. Behrendorff bowled extremely well (1/13 from his two), but everyone else except Livingstone went at over 13. One slightly concerning note for the Renegades was that Marsh struggled to hit the middle of the bat before Richardson hit his stumps in the penultimate over.

Quick update on MLC: it's on hiatus for now. A combination of errors in my attempts to fix CS09, PCCS spitting out my database, and school taking my time to run a 30 team league kind of torpedo'd my plans on that one. I will definitely consider coming back to it, but it would require a brand new sim for me to actually reboot the series, as none quite follow what I need.

However, I am working on an idea for a brand new tournament to partner the BBL tournament. It won't start for quite a long time (my World T20 will likely be either in full swing or completed when I boot it up) but after that it'll be pretty cool.

This is a match I'm proud of my performance in, particularily as I was on a drubbing streak.

Sydney went into this game unchanged while Adelaide continued to look for the answer to their bowling problem by handing a debut to Spencer Johnson.
1613630454643.png

And this happened.
1/15 Hughes: After cracking three boundaries in a row, Hughes charges, misses his attempt at a fourth, and slips over.
2/17 Vince: Two balls later Vince gloves behind giving Johnson 2/9 from his first ever Big Bash over.
3/27 Philippe: Rashid Khan is then brought on and removes Philippe who checks a cut to Johnson at backward point.
4/32 Henriques: Misses an attempt to haul the BB target up.
5/42 Silk: Picks Phil Salt at cover.
6/44 Christian: Goes for setting the BB total to a defendable 50 and misses a slog sweep. Briggs 2/2 from 1.
BB target 45
7/59 Sandhu: Sandhu actually got Johnson away a few times but then picked Wells at deep square leg so well that the fielder never had to move.
8/62 Brathwaite: Briggs' final ball is dispatched down the throat of deep mid wicket
9/62 O'Keeffe: You can't blame the tailender fr missing Rashid Khan?
10/83 Manenti: After hitting Rashid for six, he attempts to repeat the dose to Worrall and slices to Johnson again.
1613630661939.png
Look at those Briggs figures. LOOK AT THEM! Also a very very good debut for Johnson
1613630955071.png

Jake Weatherald batted as if he wanted to get the 84 target off 5 overs. He was eventually dismissed by gloving a bouncer through off the impressive Dwarshuis. After this the Strikers tried to walk it in. However, this nearly backfired spectacularily. Carey (running down and missing) and Salt (slicing to mid on) were dismissed just as they were set. However, Renshaw and Nielsen only needed four from the last over. Simple right? dot, 1, dot. Oh. Luckily Renshaw, who had 0 off 4 at this point, belted his next ball to the cover boundary.
1613631043862.png
The Sixers bowlers, in particular all bar 1 of their quicks, were much better than their batsmen.

Stars vs Hurricanes! Neither team made a change from their last game.

The Hurricanes innings was immediately began in the worst possible way. After two singles from the first two balls, McDermott gloved a Hatcher bouncer onto his stumps. Malan chipped the next ball to Maxwell at mid off to leave the Canes an inglorious 2/2. Short and Ingram started the rebuild until Zahir Khan got Ingram to flatbat to Maxy again, this time at long on. Zampa came on and immediately bowled a sweeping Handscomb and the Hurricanes were in trouble again. Again a partnership was put together, and again it was ended by Zahir, with Short sweeping to Hatcher at square leg. Mac Wright still remained, impressive with ball this year, and he was joined by the tail. Faulkner played one good shot but he went to Zampa trying to play another one and only finding Maddinson at deep cover point. Nathan Ellis went leg bye, 6, 4, bowled missing another slog. But it was Boland who proved the most useful, hanging in until the second to last delivery and hitting two sixes to boost the total to 8/117.
1613854883573.png
The star was Hatcher. But while the wicket columns are good all around, the run column? less than so
1613855831258.png

Stoinis and Fletcher got the Stars off to a solid start before Stoinis, after two spectacular hooked sixes, was caught at long on. Fletcher tried to up his personal rate when Short was brought on for the 5th over but picked McDermott at mid on, before Maddinson was stumped. More unlucky dismissals followed; Pooran got a Ball of the Century from Sandeep, Gotch hooked Faulkner hard and well but straight into the outstretched left hand of Ellis at short fine leg, and a desperate Maxwell was bowled. Zampa and Hatcher both provided a few blows and Cartwright batted out the innings to ensure no embarrassment, but it was a bad defeat on the back of a collapse.

So yeah, there were some serious issues with my old series. Thirty teams was a bit too much to manage, and then the BBL tournament required a level of spare time that was pretty tricky to achieve given the fact that I have school, dad has work, we all have other commitments etc.

However, I've not given up on running a cricketing story, and I did like the franchise-based idea of the Major League Cricket, it was just far too many teams to keep track and order of. So instead, let's combine the idea and do a BBL sim. Not only is this more manageable, but PCCS hasn't rejected my save file, so I can use the best simulator out there for it! :-)

Game 1: Stars vs Strikers
1615844775836.png
A team batting effort for the Stars was enough to post a colossal total. Azam let Stoinis dominate early on before off the final ball of the fifth over he was yorked by Wes Agar. The last ball of the powerplay, Stoinis sliced Rashid to backward point, leaving a rebuild needed despite the 65 runs from the powerplay, 44 of which were off Stoin's 22 deliveries. Larkin and Maxwell combined to add almost 100 runs across 10 overs, until Maxwell missed a sweep and was bowled by Briggs. Larkin again went the next over, chipping a Siddle knuckleball to cover. Pooran, despite finding Renshaw at deep mid wicket in the last over, and Maddinson added quick runs to get the total to 207.
1615844804334.png
The Strikers were all at sea. Alex Carey started well but he had no help at first. Weatherald struggled before top edging Stanlake to short fine leg, and Head nailed one to Rauf at long on two balls later. Stokes and Carey stabilised the innings but Carey hitting Zampa down the throat of Cartwright at long on started a bad run. Renshaw never got going and eventually missed a wild swing at Maxwell, and when Wells was dismissed off the last ball of Stoinis' spell, chopping to mid on, the floodgates opened. Haris Rauf returned to the attack and scythed through the Strikers lower order. Stokes and Rashid departed in consecutive balls, then three of the first four balls of the last over took the three remaining wickets.

Stars 5/207 (Larkin 54, Stoinis 44, Maxwell 41) beat Strikers 129 (Carey 55, Rauf 5/15)
Man of the Match: Haris Rauf (5/15)

Golden Bat: Alex Carey (55 runs)
Golden Arm: Haris Rauf (5 wickets)

Game 2: Thunder vs Sixers
1615927298718.png
It was Josh Philippe who lit up Spotless. Given sensible support from Dan Hughes, who just rotated the strike to the marauding wicketkeeper-bat, Philippe finally converted to score his first BBL hundred. Milne survived mostly unscathed but everyone else travelled. Not even the bowlers after Philippe was dismissed (having scored over 67% of his teams runs) were safe as Vince resumed the Hughes role while Smith scored a two-run-per-ball 55.
1615927626957.png
The Thunder required a good start to chase down an even 200. 4/47 wasn't this, and despite MS Dhoni and Dan Sams' best efforts, Cutting was unable to hit Nathan Lyon.

Sixers 2/199 (Philippe 102, Smith 55*) beat Thunder 7/137 (Dhoni 40, Sams 36, Abbott 3/14)
MOTM: Josh Philippe

Golden Bat: Josh Philippe (102 runs)
Golden Arm: Haris Rauf (5 wickets)
