Game 3: Scorchers vs Heat

The Scorchers put on a show. Roy and Livingstone were devastating in the powerplay, taking 79 from the six overs. The Heat maybe rued picking Wildermuth over Bazley. Meanwhile, Josh Inglis finished off the innings in a big way following a stall through overs 7-11.

The BBL09 Heat re-emerged here, losing 8/22. The Heat were happy to have signed Ben Dunk- if not for him they would have collapsed to a record low BBL total. As it was, Mitch Marsh and Fawad Ahmed destroyed their batting card.

Having reread this advice from Parth:

I'm probably going to try reintroducing economical bonuses, in addition to adding more special skills for bigger name players, and removing some that were just placeholders (e.g. Jack Wildermuth is being caned because he has a placeholder one)

It's a risky business though. as at times if a player gets a sheet anchor as well as a T20 specialist skill together. Say like Malan. It can act as a negative impact for a batsman. So choose the spl skills wisely

T20 specialist is a batting skill I guess. They are best at reading the 20 over game situation. Which means if playing in powerplays, they tend to take that extra risk and play according to the condition (only for T20s) and also face the risk of going big or going out. Gayle Raina Maxwell etc.

Rhythm bowler will keep it tight and bowl at a consistent line and length. Not too much of hay-wir bowls. Consistently bowling in one area to trouble a batsman. Say like a Lyon or Axar. For quicks you can say Anderson or Cummins.

Immense concentration, AFAIK it's a batting spl skill right? If that is, it mean they are too focused. They don't get out of loose bowls. They tend to get middle of the bat more often than not. Likes of Kohli Root Smith Williamson

Game 4: Sixers vs Hobart

The Canes went hard in the powerplay, producing the mixed result of 78 runs for three wickets. Ingram and Handscomb consolidated and thanks to Ingram and Nathan Ellis, 27 runs came from the last 3 overs, meaning the Canes had a competitive 8/174.

Philippe, Hughes and Vince made it look easy, though. Only Jofra Archer was spared as they walked it in with three and a half overs to go.

Game 5: Hurricanes vs Renegades

Another fast powerplay for the Hurricanes resulted in 3/82, and although the last 14 overs had just 110 runs scored, Ingram and Handscomb played more than effective innings. The innings was kickstarted by Ferguson and Short who battered the ball for 51 (24) combined following Wade's golden duck. Perera and Lalor were the best of a expensive bunch of bowlers.

After the early dismissal of Dhawan, Finch and Harper had the Renegades on the road to the win. However it was a false dawn. They lost 8/43 including sequences of 3/4 and 4/6. D'Arcy Short proved to be a surprisingly good bowler but Sandeep and Faulkner also played key roles.

Game 6: Renegades vs Scorchers

Dhawan got the Renegades off to a good start, Marsh kept that momentum going but then Nabi stalled it. Perera, Boyce and Richardson put in some good late blows but 160/8 wasn't the score they would have imagines having scored 70 from the powerplay.

Liam Livingstone played a great role at the beginning, converting where Dhawan didn't, but then the middle order stalled a little bit. However, Turner and Agar found the fence seven times between them to grab the win.

Game 7: Heat vs Strikers

After a shaky start, a measured knock from Head and aggressive innings from Stokes and Wells brought the Strikers to a competitive score. For the Heat, Sam Curran's bowling failure at the death would be concerning and while Laughlin and Bazley were expensive they took wickets.

The Heat, one of the team who will benefit most from the multiple boosts that are being introduced from next round, got bowled out for under 100 again. However, Jimmy Peirson and James Bazley played good knocks through the middle.

Match 8: Thunder vs Stars

The Thunder bowlers were thumped as every Star got going. Azam played through most of the innings, allowing his colleagues to go for it, while Pooran made up for running Maxwell out and being 6 (8) after the 18th by taking Cutting for 24 runs from the 19th over.

The Thunder had to attack but they didn't do so in a good way. 2/40 wasn't a bad platform to see out the innings but then the tail decided to try and hit Zampa to a higher plane. 3.1 overs later he finished with career best figures of 6/15.

The Heat's batting was much improved but there were still issues: notably Lynn picking up another duck and the middle order failing to score from Short. That said, running out Banton shot themselves in the foot. A spin specialist is needed for next year.

On an unusual Blundstone pitch (one complicated by a Test match the previous week), the Hurricanes batting collapsed having tried to go too hard too early. Faulkner scored just 6 off 22 deliveries while Tim Paine and Matt Wade batted the best of anyone.

Match 10: Renegades vs Thunder

The Thunder shot themselves in the foot hard by losing key wickets at key times, and then running out Ben Cutting. But the opening by Warner, middle order aggression by Ross (particularily against Nabi) and late hitting by Cummins got them to 173. Kane Richardson took a hattrick and 5/23.

The game seemed done at nine overs; when Aaron Finch was dismissed, the score was already needing just 72 off 10.4 overs. His teammates continued to play aggressively and they got the job done with 11 balls to spare. Cummins bowled well and those with a keener eye than most would have noticed that Chris Green probably should have bowled more.
