Why?

Why should I follow the herd like a sheep and follow a sport that has become incredibly boring over the last few years? A sport that England are crap at? A sport where the fans have an extreme attitude problem? A sport where the fans are pathetic, petty, individuals like you?

What's manly about that?

At least I have the balls to actually admit that Association Football is crap to watch.

-Why is it crap to watch?
-England doesnt have a crap team, its the best weve had since 66.
-The fans dont have attitude problems, its something called passion, maybe you should introduce yourself to it sometimes.
- Boring? If its boring, I really think your life has been full of dull experiences.

They spend 90 minutes setting up one or two goals per match. Regardless of England's team being good or not, the sport is dull to watch.

Passion...terrorists have passion, but nobody would suggest that they are in the right. The funniest thing is that the crowd a lot of the time gets more physical than the sport.

"If it's boring, I really think your life has been full of dull experiences"
Just think about this one. If his life has been full of dull experiences...wouldn't that make it exciting? If his life had been exciting, then he may see it as more boring.

Australia qualifying for the World Cup is great, good on them, but to be honest I won't be watching the world cup as I really don't care in the slightest what happens. If Aussie make the final I'll be happy to watch (unfortunately I have a feeling we may miss out.) Normally I get patriotic when watching Australia in any sport, as I do in the Olympics a lot, but watching them play that sport really doesn't do much for me.

Why is it crap to watch? It's boring, that's why.

Why is it boring? Because over the last few years more and more teams have adopted negative tactics, concentrating more on avoiding defeat rather than trying to win.

England do have a crap team, that's why they never win any major tournaments. Also note that the top teams in the Premier League consist largely of non-English players.

It's amazing that when the Huddersfield soccer team play at home, the away fans have to have a police escort through the town, paid for by my council tax, whereas when Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team play at home, at the same ground, the away fans don't need any such escort. Is it passion to need a police escort? Or is it pathetic?

And you are a prime example of someone with a serious attitude problem.

Many fans, like you, have an irrational phobia of the word soccer, even though it is actually an invention of the English, as an abbreviation for Association Football, the correct name for the game.

You then also have something against other forms of football from using the name football. I notice you're a Rugby League fan, I take it you frequently complain to the Rugby Football League for using the word football in the name of their sport? And I assume you don't watch Sky Sports' coverage of the game, as they call the game football?

I do watch Sky Sports Ruby League all the time. Watching and liking the game doesnt mean I have to agree with the fact they call it "Rugby Football League". Basically Football should mean a game prodominantly played with the use of the foot. Rugby isnt this. Neither is NFL. Although they use their feet occasionally, it is not football.

And where the hell do you get off saying have an attitude problem?

Your the one that is arrogant and patronising 99% of the time. I am simply a fan with passion who lives the game. It is the most popular international sport, and is followed by the majority of the world. So my question to you is, does the majority of the world have an attitude problem? How ridiculous.

Early forms of football ALL predominately used hands. Association football is just the one that largely outlawed the use of hands.

As early forms of football all predominately used hands, then association football has the least rights to use the name.

I never said that. But many soccer fans do have an attitude problem when it comes to the usage of the word soccer, and other games calling themselves football.

Your attitude problem is plain for all to see. Just look at the way you jumped on Zorax for calling Association Football soccer!

Just a bit more of a history lesson, the name "football" for a sport was originally a catch all term used to describe all ball games played on foot, without equipment, as opposed to sports played on horseback or with equipment.

The correct definition for the modern variations of football is one in which goals are scored with the foot.

By the way, the original rules of association football included the following.

7. In case the ball goes behind the goal line, if a player on the side to whom the goal belongs first touches the ball, one of his side shall be entitled to a free kick from the goal line at the point opposite the place where the ball shall be touched. If a player of the opposite side first touches the ball, one of his side shall be entitled to a free kick (but at the goal only) from a point 15 yds. from the goal line opposite the place where the ball is touched; the opposing side shall stand behind their goal line until he has had his kick.

8. If a player makes a fair catch, he shall be entitled to a free kick, provided he claims it by making a mark with his heel at once; and in order to take such a kick he may go back as far as he pleases, and no player on the opposite side shall advance beyond his mark until he has kicked.

13. A player shall be allowed to throw the ball or pass it to another if he made a fair catch or catches the ball on the first bounce.
Gee, sounds an awful lot like they used hands a lot!

Whilst rumaging around the internet, I came across this: http://www.iafc.com.au/austus.html

It's a hybrid game of Aussie Rules and American Football. What do the Aussies on the forum think? I find it an interesting idea, but I get the feeling it would look like a bit of a mess.

To clarify on the 'Rugby Football' argument. Webb Ellis, historically used his hands in a game of association football at the Rugby School- the sport was founded by a pupil at a school in Rugby playing a soccer match.

Ah, alright then. Hacking was what completely seperated assocaition football with rugby football, but Will Ellis is still credited with it, hence the name of the Rugby World Cup and the name of Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

Mistakenly credited with it. Hacking probably wasn't the only thing, but in those days there was no official rules of any code of football. There were numerous regional varients, some of which largely favoured kicking, some which largely favoured handling.

As these became codified, just one variant ended up being a game that largely favoured kicking, the game which we now refer to as Association Football.

Can I add that not all football fans are idiots. The Premiership is not boring- look at the teams from positions 2-10!!! Brighton and Hove Albion home games don't see much of a police presence due to the behavior being good. Also, Spain have got a great team, yet they have not won any recent tournaments. England recently beat the team ranked number 2 in the world, showing their not crap!

I don't have a problem with Rugby using football as I also know the history of football from Tsu Chu to modern day. The only one I have a little niggle at occassionally is American Football.
