Anyone else downloaded BioShock from XBox Live yet? I have and I played it for about 30 minutes but now I'm off to bed. I'll post my first impressions in the morning but for now all I'll say is that it reminds me of The Suffering set in a sort of Atlantis type scenario. Quite bizarre really. Not sure what to make of it yet.

I am eagerly awaiting the PC demo, seen videos of it and looked very interesting. Since its based on Unreal Engine 3.0, graphics are amazing and the PC version will scale well with different levels of hardware.

Bioshock

Hi, Considering getting it is it as good as the press have made it out to be?

Having played the PC demo, and now having the full game, I must say that it is the first game in many years that has grabbed my by the neck and got me addicted. The demo is limited in the features it gives, using only a Wrench and Revolver as a weapon and just 2 special powers.

Im playing it on the PC and the visuals are stunning. I assembled my PC over this year and my new card produces the Dirext X10 beautifully. The water effects make me stop and admire every time.

The game is certainly worth it. Beware, try the demo before buying if your on the PC. You need high specs to enjoy it.

Well, I finished the demo and was left rather unimpressed. I wasn't gripped by it at all. The artwork is amazing and the design of the levels is really impressive but the gameplay itself left me cold.

There are some neat ideas but on the whole there was nothing that left me with that 'wow' factor. I will concede that I found the story, or rather the back-story, quite compelling and interesting but not enough to make me buy the game.

Well, I must admit the demo is only really a tutorial. It is almost impossible not to die. I assure you that if they had run the demo on for 5 more minutes, the action really starts. Maybe that would mean more people like yourself would buy the game.

Bioshock and Securom

I've heard a lot about this Securom, can it really harm your PC? I've got STALKER and that came with Securom didn't it? I haven't seen any ill effects.
I don't care how good Bioshock is, if it can mess my PC up, I ain't getting it! Also, I've heard that even if you install the demo, you're given Securom as a lil' bonus! Why the hell do they have to copy-protect a sodding demo????? It's bad enough to push this rubbish on the full game, but a demo? When are these idiots going to realise:
Good games sell, bad games don't! No amount of copy protection BS is going to change that! Look at Oblivion, that only had a basic DVD check security system. It didn't sell too badly, did it?

One other thing, a lot of people have said Bioshock's short, which is strange as PC Gamer said it was a long game. Does short apply only if you plough through the main story, as opposed to doing side-quests?

First things first, Securom does not "mess up your system". It is a copy protection venture which gives you a certain number of installations and you must download the .exe after you have bought the game. However, the makers of Bioshock have changed this and now installation can be unlimited.

On the subject of its length, it depends on your playing style. A rusher would run and gun, and race through the game yet die a lot. A tactition could spend a lot of time planning attacks and upgrades and so on. I love Bioshock, and am around half way through and have had 12 hours on it.

So my words of advice. Forget Serucom - it sucks but you dont notice it. And buy Bioshock. Game of the year by a mile, and hours of fun.

Thank you, I will buy it now! :)

How is the replay value, by the way? Is it one of those games that you come back to time and again, or is it a case of once you've finished it, you don't want to play it again?

It depends how you play it. The game has different endings depended on what you do with the "Little Sisters". I don't want to give anything of the story away, but there is replay value there. I've just started a new game on hard after completing the game on normal. Its difficult!

To get full value from it then, we should just dive in on the highest difficulty level then? I'm good at shooters and always find that medium or even hard are far too easy and just head straight for very hard!
