Brendon Hedger's Football Journey

I don't think by scoring in this match you should have your spot sealed permanently. You need to be scoring on a regular basis to have a permanent spot :spy

fearsome tweak THIS. I tweaking just deleted everything I bloody wrote. I had the tweaking whole game down pretty much. and I accidently selected all the text and deleted it. And I ain't writing up the whole tweaking match again.

tweaking HELL. I just tweaking wrote a huge tweaking response to your tweaking post but then as I was about to hit the tweaking quick reply tweaking button I accidentally tweaking selected my entire tweaking post and then hit the Delete key! No way I'm tweaking writing it all up again either

You could have tried using Ctrl + Z and Undo it :p

Well I'm just going to write up a little match report. I know it's not going to really work for this story but I am now in no mood to rewrite the update.

A Goal to the Good as We Go Through

It was Wednesday and the very important cup match was on. Match kickoff was at 5:30 pm and we were warming up. "Come on guys. We can win this", Tristan, the skipper told us. We would need to win this to go through or hold them to a goalless draw which would mean we would win on away goals. We headed out onto the field for kickoff. "Come on kid. Show us your skills", the captain said to me before we got into our positions. We kicked off and the game was underway.

3rd Minute: Will Paone gets a chance but miscues the shot and it goes well over.

17th Minute: A nice flowing attack from Northern Tigers nearly results in a goal as a Hedger cross was headed over the bar by Chillico.

20th Minute: GOALLLL!!!! Beautiful free kick from WIll Paone flies into the top left corner, leaving the keeper no chance. You can't do any better than that. Northern Tigers 1 - 0 Merewether Advance.

25th Minute: Merewether go on the counter and win a corner. The corner comes to nothing though as the Tigers skipper clears the ball to safety.

28th Minute: Another goal. Northern Tigers go 2 - 0 up. Hedger gets a needed goal. He shows Hampson a clean set of heels before continuing into the penalty area and a clean left footed strike sees Hedger increase the Tigers lead. The Northern Tigers can't lose from here, can they?

39th Minute: A good chance for Merewether to pull one back before half time but Griffiths shot goes well over.

45th+1 Minute: Stoppage time nearly brings Merewether back into it at the break but Faria's head to the cross goes over.

Half Time: Northern Tigers look in control of this game at half time but can they hold onto their lead?

49th Minute: Merewether get the first good chance of the second half but Shaw hits the side netting after being clear on goal.

51st Minute: Northern Tigers nearly increase their lead after Roulston's free kick was hit well but it just crossed the face of the goal and went out for a goal kick.

54th Minute: Great save from Lanza keeps Merewether in the game. Will Paone can't believe it.

68th Minute: Will Paone has a snapshot on goal but the ball goes sailing over the bar and out for a goal kick.

73rd Minute: Merewether are back in it!!!! Shaw shows his skill taking the ball centimetres away from Fiorentini's hands then turning it around him and putting it into the free goal. Northern Tigers 2 - 1 Merewether Advance. We will have a real match on our hands now.

86th Minute: Lanza judges it well running out and punching away the cross. Northern Tigers could have sealed it then. Merewether still looking for the winner.

90th Minute: There will be 3 minutes of stoppage time to be played. Can Merewether make something special happen in 3 minutes.

90th+3 Minute: The referee blows for full time and Northern Tigers will be very happy with their win. They played well, in defence and made better use of their chances and will be looking to progress even further in the New South Wales Cup.

It was a great result and a needed win. I was happy with my performance scoring a goal, my 5th of the season and the one I needed the most. Would it be enough to keep me in the side though. "Good win team. I'm happy with our performance. Everybody did their job. The defenders were strong, the midfield was good in both setting up attacking plays and coming back to defend and both of the starting XI strikers both scored goals. Let's repeat this performance in our next game." That gave us all a confidence boost and we would be looking to win our next game.

ARay, I did try that but I typed it up on PlanetCricket so it didn't allow me to do that.

I was still in the squad after our win against Merewether as I had scored a very important goal. "Your spot is still under a lot of pressure", Damian had said to me the previous day. probably hoping it would make me work harder to score a few goals. No changes were made to the previous starting XI, in hope for the same result against Granville apart from the scratching of the 2 extra subs we were allowed in the cup match, Davidson and Griffiths not playing in this match.

Salvatore Fiorentini
Daniel McGowan
Chris Meredith
Johan van der Waal
Tristan Cross (C)
Chris Roulston
Frane Horvat
Bradley Fitzgerald
Nick Chillico
Brendon Hedger
Will Paone

Subs:

Corey Evans
Phillip Doyle
Rhys Sterrey
Michael Bosnar
Domenico Rolli

It was a nice afternoon as we headed out onto the field ready for the kickoff, sunny with a slight breeze but it should have been a good game. They kicked off to start the game. We had a good chance early on when I put a good ball through to Will but he hit it over the bar from just outside the box and it was a goalkick. A promising start though. Granville nearly opened the scoring 6 minutes in where a shot from inside the box went just wide. PENALTY!!! No. The referee has said the foul was just outside the area. Carlos Ketting impeded Will so it was a definate free kick. I wanted the free kick and took it. I smashed it towards the goal and it deflected off the wall, the keeper trying desperately to get to it but couldn't and I had my second goal in 2 games and I had put the team in the lead. I had started off well and nearly set up a goal as I layed the ball off for Fitzgerald who shot straight away and it wasn't a bad effort going just wide of the mark. The next 20 minutes were played pretty evenly as there was now only 5 minutes until half time. Half-time came with us in front by 1 goal to nil. "Keep it up team. We're ahead and let's keep it that way. A win here would be perfect". We knew we could win this and no changes were made as we headed out for the second half.

3 minutes in though, the captain suffered an injury and had to go off. We all hoped it wasn't serious. Phillip Doyle was brought on for him and van der Waal took the captains armband. We were lucky not to concede when Fiorentini was caught out but the ball struck the crossbar and was cleared after that. The heads went down though 8 minutes later when White headed the ball past the keeper and it was back level. Damian decided to make a double substitution bringing on Sterrey and Rolli for Horvat and Will Paone. The change nearly worked to perfection as Rolli nearly put the ball in the back of the net but the ball went up off the crossbar. The game went into the last 10 minutes with the scores still level. Rolli nearly curled it past the keeper with 7 minutes to go but the shot went just wide. It looked heading for a draw but the keeper made a costly mistake misjudging the shot and it went into the back of the net. ****. We could have won this game. We had to go into all out attack now. Luckily, there was 5 minutes of stoppage time but would it be enough to clinch an equaliser. We definately had the chances as we piled on the pressure but the opposition defence was holding strong. And it was all over, the team very disappointed. A game we really needed to win but we couldn't do that, going down 2-1 to Granville.

Needs more personal emotion Hedger, it's getting bland again... You are writing this from your view, not a third person account!

You have written nothing about your emotions or feelings when scoring the goal. Honestly, you are like "I got the ball. I scored a goal. Then they got the ball again."

Let your emotions run free brother!!!

Also more anger at the referee, that was a great saga when it was going a few updates again.. you seem to have lost the knack of what you were doing.. try to revisit some old habits! I want to see teammate fights, punchups in the matches, slagging off the referee...

Nonetheless, quality story Hedger. :thumbs

I think blake has a point. Stuff like
"I wanted the free kick and took it. I smashed it towards the goal and it deflected off the wall, the keeper trying desperately to get to it but couldn't and I had my second goal in 2 games and I had put the team in the lead."

I had to reread twice to understand what exactly happened. I dont want to discourage you but the writing does lack a sense of urgency. Pump in some adrenaline and you shall do fine. :)
