Loving that team name. Naftovyk-Ukrnafta Okhtyrka. You couldn't make it up, could you? :p

lol. I can't even make up a decent thread title, lol. I don't think I could make up that name.

And no Covvy, I'm guessing it's Naft-ov-ik Uk-r-naft-a Ok-a-turk-a or something like that.

I've managed in Ukraine before, didn't get that far, but I enjoyed it mainly for the sheer dirtyness of all the players. Expect red cards in every game!

haha. Thanks for letting me know in advance so I don't get pissed off that my players are getting sent off each game.

Fri 11th December 2009

After getting up early in the morning, I got ready. ████, ████, ████. I needed a suit. I went out and right at 9 am, I ran into the store. One of the workers came over to me, saying something in Ukrainian. I must have looked very puzzled as she just walked right away. I quickly found myself a good suit. I didn't really have time to see if it fitted so I just took it as it was the right size and a pair of pants to go with it. The price was 1385 Ukrainian Hryvnia. I took out my wallet and got the money I had exchanged to pay for it. I sighed as the person at the counter spoke in more Ukrainian. I said "I don't speak Ukrainian. I speak English". He seemed to understand me enough as he told me the price and I gave him the money. I smiled as I walked away going quickly back to the hotel to get changed. ████. I was going to be late. I hopped into the car and drove to the ground quickly. I got there at 9.25 am. Just in time, I thought as I walked in. I took my seat as I watched the only media, Victor Rudyka and The Okhtyrka Daily came in. "You sit here as the new manager of Naftovyk-Ukrnafta. Is this your dream job." I thought for a second. It wasn't really my dream job nor would I have chosen it over any others but I thought I would be letting the club down if I responded negatively so I said, "I am pleased to have a chance to work here." The next question was about not being able to speak Ukrainian. Like myself, they knew it would be a problem so I replied, "It's a major obstacle in the short term until I learn to speak Ukrainian". I paused before adding, "Or other people learn to speak English". "What is your overall approach to the tactical side of the game." I hadn't really thought of that just yet. I hadn't really had a look at the squad. I wasn't sure what to say so I only said, "I like to mix and match". I wondered when the questions were going to stop and it didn't seem to polite to inform them that I would take no more questions so I continued. "I want every player to know they can come to me with anything" I replied to a question about man management. "How involved do you intend to be in the day-to-day running of the club." "I intend to be involved as much as time allows me", I replied. The last question I was asked was "New managers often bring about times of change and upheaval and some might fear for their jobs. Will there be any changes". Again, another thing I had not thought about much so I said, "Everyone will have a chance to prove their worth". I decided to have a look at the squad later in the day. According to my assistant reports, Mykola Tsygan was one of the best players at the club and by far, our best goalkeeper. It looked like the biggest problem was in our strikers. Tormozov was okay according to our assistant manager but our next best striker, Valeriy Ivaschenko although the vice captain was not really that great. My assistant had recommended a few strikers so I sent my scouts out to report on them. Maxym Kryyvi looked like a good player at 21 years of age and should be pretty cheap. Later in the day, I got my reports back. Just like I expected, he was a quality player and apparantly should be available for under 2K. All the players scouted seemed similar apart from their age so I was going to target Kryyvi. I would put in a bid later. I went back to the hotel after a long day and slept well.

I finally decided to bid on Maxym Kryyvi and offered 2,000 pounds for him. I hoped that the Metalurg ZP manager would accept the offer for the young striker but I had more money to spend if that were to be the case. I wasn't sure what to do so I decided to attend one of the training sessions. There were a lot of hard tackles and I was hoping they wouldn't do that in the game. The coach, Victor Popovich came up to me after the training session. He must have been Ukrainian and he started talking to me in their language and he realised that I didn't speak Ukrainian at all. Luckily, for both of us, the assistant manager had joined us. "Hey. I don't know what he is saying." He smiled before talking to the coach in Ukrainian. After he finished talking, my assistant said, "He says that the players like to play dirty which is one of the features of Ukrainian football so don't worry about that and that he should let you know." "Oh, ok then. Thanks." He sighed before saying, "You got to really learn Ukrainian". He was a good translator so I replied, "Or you could be my translator." He laughed at my comment. "My English isn't that great, is it." "I haven't found anyone that has spoken English better apart from those journalists and it wouldn't have been much of a press conference if I didn't understand what they were saying". "Well ok then. I better go now. You still got another 3 months until the season resumes so you could use that time to learn Ukrainian". He was right but I had done French in school and that was annoying enough to learn. Without a teacher, it would be even harder. I sighed as I walked to my car. I had a look for a house to rent out and I found a few good houses that were cheap. I decided to have a think about it a bit later and headed back to the hotel and after having a drink, I went straight up to my room.

Ok. Normally I do but I have seemed to forget not having done any updates on my stories in a month. Anyway, I will do that from now on.

Mon 14th December

I slept in until 10 before getting up and heading over to my office. My bid for Maxym Kryvyi had been accepted. "We have accepted your bid of 2,000 pounds for Maxym Kryvyi and you now have permission to offer him a contract". I offered him a contract of 13,500 pounds an annum until June 2011 with a signing on fee of 375 pounds plus a few bonuses as he had wanted in his contract requests.

I wondered if he would respond today but as the time went on, he hadn't so I decided not to bother about it. After looking through a list of players that my assistant manager reckoned I would be able to sign, I told my assistant to come and translate for me. I went up to the scout, Anatoliy Yermak. I then told my assistant to ask him to scout 18 year old Russian striker, Arsen Goshokov for me. He translated for the scout before he said something back. "No problem", my assistant said translating the few words that the scout had replied. I didn't know what to really do for the rest of the day so I tried learning Ukrainian but it was so damn confusing that I just put the book down straight away and sighed. Maybe later, I told myself. Nothing really happened for the rest of the day.

could've gone to look for a house you lazy man. :p btw why are you using pounds in ukraine?
