Preperations For Tomorrow

25/03/2007
Planetcricket Battrick Championship League One Game Two
Briggs Bullets v Cricwick Legends @ The Bullets Dome
Start Time: 10:30am

Pre-Match Notes:The Bullets look to continue their fine start to their PC Battrick Championship campaign as they welcome Cricwick Legends to the Dome tomorrow. Both teams kick started their campaigns with victories last week, the Bullets defeating Umer's XI in a great encounter, while the Legends took care of Spinners United CCC with reasonable ease. Both teams are currently doing well in their reigonal leagues too, so a good encounter is expected between two teams in top form.

Judging on my last PC league match and Cricwick Legends last PC league match, and depending on the teams for tomorrow, the summary would be as follows:

Code:
                [B]Briggs Bullets[/B] [B]Cricwick Legends[/B]
Top Order: respectable competent
Middle Order: competent mediocre
Lower Order: abysmal [B]V[/B] worthless
Seam Bowling: respectable competent
Spin Bowling: respectable competent
Fielding: woeful feeble
The Bullets out-do the Legends in all main departments, both teams are pretty solid all-round but the important factors and higher skill levels that the Bullets posess over the Legends could see them come out victorious tomorrow.

Briggs Bullets Lineup to face blue dragons tomorrow (from):
1.Ainsworth, 2.Midworth(wk), 3.Moodley, 4.N.Ali(c), 5.Sohail, 6.Jepson, 7.S.Ali, 8.Burdett, 9.Gillman, 10.Bignot, 11.Ahmed

Briggs' View
"If we keep to our standards of the last couple of display's and perform to the best of our abilities tomorrow, we should win this one hands down. We have a stronger team but we must be careful not to underestimate them. I can see a good game tomorrow, hopefully it will last longer than the one on Friday anyway! Experimenting a bit with the lineup, Midworth will open with Ainsworth and Sohail will bat at 5, just to see how Des does, we've tried him a couple of times up there but never with the experience of Ainsworth at the other end so lets see if it rubs off on him. Pradnesh Ahmed also plays, Storer has done great in the last couple of games so he gets a well deserved rest tomorrow, and Pradnesh gets a chance to show us how much he's come on in the last couple of weeks."

Awesome win there Briggs, his only advantage proved to be nothing. Does explain why his team is so low down in the ladder, needs to get that middle order fixed.

Youre match should be quite the walkover, just imagine you're playing against me :p Winning here would definitely help you on your way to acheiving a good spot in Div 1.

The Bullets focus switched to the Planetcricket Battrick Championship as they took on Cricwick Legends at The Bullets Dome. On a beautiful day in Yorkshire, it was the Legends captain Nandi Mohammed that won the toss and suprisingly chose to put the Bullets in on a pitch which looked dead set for batting. Bullets openers Ainsworth and Midworth made their way out to the middle and wasted no time in getting stuck into the Legends opening bowlers, hitting 11 off the first over. Both were looking comfortable at the crease until the suprise opening bowler; spinner Vajramani Malik took the edge of Midworth's bat and Govender at slip took a comfortable catch to dismiss the youngster. That wicket brought out Sugriva Moodley, badly out of form and in need of runs. Moodley looked nervous but his nerves were soothed when he stroked Rajiv Mohammed down the ground for 4. However, he would soon find his run of bad form continuing as he mis-timed a slower ball from the same bowler straight into the hands of Devaney at gully. The Legends were estatic, they had the Bullets reeling at 33 for 2 and captain Nalin Ali made his way out to the middle. Nalin and Ainsworth had opened the innings for a long time together in the past and so were acustomed to each other, and this showed as the two set about dismantling the bowling attack once more. Ainsworth in particular showing the spinner Malik no mercy, and the pair were to put on 57 for the 3rd wicket until Ainsworth was adjudged LBW from a very good delivery by Frikkie. That left the Bullets on 90 for 3 and the Legends smelt blood, usual opener Sohail made his way out knowing that some rebuilding needed doing. Together with his captain, the two would slowly work the Bullets out of trouble, the captain playing a Ganguly like innings of recent times, not scoring quickly, but rotating the strike and keeping his cool. The two put on 124, the highest partnership of the match and it would do much to get the team out of trouble. It would end when the captain; in search of quick runs to up the run rate, swung and missed at a more flighted delivery from Malik. Sohail then knew his job was to up the run rate, and new man Jepson did his upmost to help, the pair stroking the singles and rotating strike nicely, and hitting the odd boundary now and again, but a comical piece of running would see Sohail's fine innings of 74 come to an end. Sohail at the strikers end would call Jepson through for a comfortable single, but Jepson not paying attention would run straight into the oncoming Sohail, tripping him up and leaving him helpless as he was run out. It was a comical way to end a fine innings, and it brought in Shastwat Ali who wasted no time in scoring quickly. Shastwat, together with Jepson put on 44 in no time, but a superb final over from Daniel Baines restricted the Bullets to only 4 from it, and in the process he picked up 3 valuable wickets to end the innings at 285 for 8.

Cricwick knew they would have to start well if they were to have any hope of chasing down such a large total, and start well they did not. Young seamer Pradnesh Ahmed grabbed the wicket of Govender for only 4, despite replays showing that there was a clear inside edge onto the pads. Burdett would then strike next over, Rampaul hitting one straight in the air and straight down the throat of Shastwat Ali who took a comfortable catch to leave the Legends reeling at 16 for 2. This would not deter the Legends attacking approach though and Mohammed together with Westcarr would proceed to dismantle the Bullets bowling attack, first seeing off Burdett and Ahmed for expensive first spells, then hitting Nalin Ali for 33 from his first 3 overs. The Bullets were in shock and Westcarr was racing away to a fine half century in no time. It would take a fine piece of bowling and wicketkeeping to dismiss the dangerous looking Westcarr as Mr Reliable, George Bignot struck a vital blow for the Bullets. Westcarr looking to continue his aggressive approach went for a big heave but could only top edge the ball straight up in the air, and Midworth running back took a fine diving catch to dismiss him and leave the score 83 for 3. This brought out young Australian Darren Devaney to join his captain at the crease and the two would build a partnership which at one stage looked like winning the game for the Legends. The two took apart some poor bowling from the Bullets seamers, hitting away nearly everything that came their way, and it would take the spin of Bignot to break the 100 run partnership. The captain would be the man to fall, being bowled round his legs by Bignot who jumped for joy on dismissing the captain who looked set to see his team home for victory. In his next over, Bignot would then trap Devaney plum infront to bring an end to his fine innings of 56. At 192 for 5 the game looked all but done, with two new men at the crease many of the home fans seemed to think it would soon be over, but a devestating attack by Richard Gurney, supported well by Malik, gave the Legends a chance once more. The two put on 37 in no time before the re-introduction of Burdett scored the breakthrough. He removed Malik with a fine piece of return fielding, and then 3 deliveries later he removed Baines to leave the Legends 231 for 7. Mohammed would then be the next to fall, Gillman grabbing his wicket in the next over and the game looked to be fading away for the Legends until Gurney launched his attack. He brought up his half century with a huge 6 and it came from only 30 deliveries, but Gillman would wrap things up for the Bullets, dismissing last man Nutter who in his attempt to slog, only found Ahmed on the boundary rope, to give the Bullets a very nervous victory.

"We won, but I have let the lads know that performances like that are unacceptable. We were sloppy today, especially in the field. Our batting was fine, we did what we could in that aspect and achieved a total that was more than comfortable if we were to ball to our capabilities. However we didnt do that, they lobbed us about the ground like they were nothing bowlers. We did well to bring it back in the middle stages of the innings because if they would have kept going at the rate they were, we would have been beaten by 35 overs. Biggie saved us I think, his spells were oustanding and he picked up wickets at vital stages, if not for him we probably would have lost. Burdett was dissapointing today, so too was Gilly, Nalin and Pradnesh did well to bring it back after expensive starts, but ive made sure they know they havent performed at all well today, and I think they know that themselves. If we play like this in next weeks games, I will be sitting here talking to you on the back of 2 defeats."

That was a close call for you, 2 quickfire 50s in the middle just didn't go on. Good performance by Bignot.

League Game Eleven
Briggs Bullets v Carlton Bobcats @ The Bullets Dome
Start Time: 10:30am

Pre-Match Notes:The Bullets welcome second placed Bobcats to the Dome tomorrow in a game which could potentially decide who finishes second in the league. The Bobcats and Postwar's having been leading a two horse race this season in the fight for first place and with the visitors still harbouring hopes of clinching the title, they will be coming to the Dome looking for a win. The Bullets will be boosted by new ?3.4m signing from Australia; Ross Mcmahon, who they will hope will dismantle the prolific top order the Bobcats possess. Its sure to be a cracker at the Dome.

Judging on my last league match and Carlton Bobcats last league match, and depending on the teams for tomorrow, the summary would be as follows:

Code:
                [B]Briggs Bullets[/B] [B]Carlton Bobcats[/B]
Top Order: respectable strong
Middle Order: competent mediocre
Lower Order: abysmal [B]V[/B] worthless
Seam Bowling: respectable proficient
Spin Bowling: respectable strong
Fielding: woeful mediocre
The have a formidable line up, and will be relying on their top order for big runs tomorrow. If the Bullets can make early breakthroughs, there may be some trouble for the Bobcats, but they also have a much stronger bowling line up just incase they fail to fire in the batting department.

Briggs Bullets Lineup to face blue dragons tomorrow (from):
1.Ainsworth, 2.Sohail, 3.N.Ali(c), 4.Moodley, 5.Midworth(wk), 6.Jepson, 7.S.Ali, 8.Burdett, 9.Gillman, 10.Bignot, 11.Mcmahon

Briggs' View
"The Bobcats will bring a big game tomorrow, and they have a team which will potentially beat anyone on their day. We've got to make sure we give 110% tomorrow otherwise they will capitalise and we will be left with egg on our faces, much like we were against Postwar's a couple of weeks ago. The boys know what is needed tomorrow and they dont want to go through the feelings they had after that very same game so they will be giving it there all tomorrow."

The stage was set, 3rd versus 2nd in V.216 in a game which was sure to be a cracker, and one which would go some way to deciding who would claim second place in the league. The Bobcats were the visitors to the Dome, laying 2nd in the league and 8 points ahead of the Bullets who's faltering campaign had just picked up some steam in recent weeks. The sun was shining on a fine day in Yorkshire and to the delight of the home fans who had packed out the Dome, Nalin Ali won the toss and decided to bat first on a good looking pitch. Both teams will have been looking to make an early impression on the game, the Bullets hoping to get off to solid start and get some early runs on the board, while the Bobcats were hoping to knock over the top order early on. Ainsworth and Sohail though would make a solid start, seeing off the dangerous new ball attack and keeping the runs flowing at a healthy rate. Sohail showed his attacking prowess, smacking a couple of sixes in the process and he brought up his 50 first, to the delight of the home fans. However, Sohail would been the first to depart with the score on 93. Spinner Gary Briggs would be the wicket taker, trapping Sohail plum LBW to see him go for a well made 53. The captain came in at 3, promoting himself up the order in place of the out of form Moodley, and he would find life pretty tough going, the spinners were keeping things tight and the introduction of star all-rounder Ken Chibale to the attack made things even more tough going, and it would be that man who took the wicket of the captain, Ali cutting one straight into the hands of Giles to leave the Bullets 117/2. It would then be two wickets in two balls as Ainsworth would fall to the first delivery of the next over. The impressive Gary Sinethemba trapping Ainsworth infront of middle and off to see him go for a patient 51 and leave the Bullets with two players at the crease who were yet to face a ball. Moodley and Midworth had it all to do, and they were facing some pretty explosive bowling from Chibale in the process. Both managed to survive and begin to build a good looking partnership. Moodley would be the aggressor, keeping the runs flowing and hitting the boundaries in a healthy 78 run partnership, but it would be ended by Chibale yet again, Moodley deceived by a slower one and hit it straight back into the all-rounders hands. Midworth was joined by Jepson with only 5 overs left and runs were needed if the Bullets were going to have something defendable. Jepson wasted no time getting settled and hit a succession of boundaries to get the runs flowing. Midworth joined in the fun too, hammering a huge six from Chibale, much to the delight of the home support. Chibale would have the last laugh though, restricting the Bullets to only 3 runs in the final over, and taking the wickets of Jepson and Shastwat Ali in the process to end the Bullets innings on 233/6.

233 was not the best score by any means, but it was defendable and with the support of a packed out Bullets Dome behind them, the home team took the field looking confident, and new signing Ross Mcmahon was given a huge cheer when he took the new ball. Together with Burdett, the two would start well, keeping things very tight and ruffling a few feathers in the Bobcats openers. The home fans would soon be on there feet as Burdett made the big breakthrough, getting rid of the dangerous James Hibbert who edged one through to Midworth behind the stumps. 8 for 1 and the Bullets sensed blood, Mcmahon was bowling with venom while giving nothing away and Burdett was keeping the batsmen on their toes, and it would not be long before the ?3.4m signing claimed his first Bullets wicket. Malcolm Robin would be the victim, edging behind to Midworth to leave the Bobcats 23/2. The captain decided it was time for a change and brought himself into the attack along with in-form spinner Bignot, but with Chibale and Hamilton looking aggressive, Bignot was the victim of some good clean hitting from the pair, hitting the spinner around for a couple of boundaries in what would be an expensive opening spell. The Bobcats pair were looking comfortable at the crease and the wickets had seemingly dried up as the pair brought up a fine 100 run partnership. Something needed to be done and the captain introduced Gillman to the attack as well as bringing Burdett back, and it would be the latter of the pair that made the vital breakthrough. The leading wicket taker for the Bullets this season removed Hamilton with a cracking yorker to give the Bullets fresh hope, but with Chibale still there, the Bobcats were still favourites. He was joined at the crease by Wayne Carrick, but runs had now begun to dry up. Nalin and Bignot bowled fantastic second spells and restricted the Bobcats scoring, and in the process further upping the run rate. With 10 overs left, the Bobcats had work to do needing 59 from 60, but the re-introduction of Mcmahon to the attack soon made the Bobcats task a whole lot harder. In his first over back he clean bowled Chibale for 89 and the Bullets players were estatic. It would then be 2 wickets in 3 balls as Gillman struck in the very next over, Carrick hitting one straight to the captain in the covers and the Bobcats were 186 for 5. Mcmahon would then all but wrap up the game for the Bullets in his next over, taking 2 wickets in 2 balls, first dismissing Finn who was caught dead infront, and then next ball Gary Briggs was yorked all ends up as the Bobcats fell to 191 for 7. The next over would bring more success for Gillman as he took 2 wickets in 3 balls and left the Bobcats 192 for 9 and the home fans were going crazy sensing yet another big victory. Stuart Bexfield was still at the crease though and he silenced the home fans by smashing Mcmahon for a big 6 down the ground and in doing so brought up the Bobcats 200. Gillman would be the man to end it though, claiming the final wicket of Sinethemba who edged through to Midworth to give the Bullets an outstanding victory against the 2nd place Bobcats.

"What a game! I told the boys beforehand to go out there and show no fear against this lot, and they did just that. We knew they had a very good bowling attack and probably have the best all-rounder in the league on their books, but we batted really well and when we scored 233 I knew it would be enough. The pitch wasnt playing too great, Derek and a few of the other lads told me that, and with Macca on our cards now, I knew we had a great chance early on. The partnership they had off 100+ put us out of it for some time, but we never gave up and the performance at the end to get rid of the lower middle order and tail with such ease was oustanding. They still have to play Postwar's and if we keep our great form up, we could still nick in and steal 2nd place which would be some achievement. All eyes now though turn to Sunday's big game and ill be making sure the boys are focused on that fully."

You made the same mistake in the Umers XI match too. Need to be careful of these things.
How much do you get per home game?

Well, its a 20k stadium, but the last 2 home games ive had, the crowd has been 24k and I got about ?150,000. Ideally if my form keeps improving and continues into next season, id like to expand but as of now its quite stable.

Sorry about the mistakes too ;)

My team for tomorrow will be up in the review later on tonight btw.

nice win...would have been a closer game if the middle/lower order didnt collapse

Preperations For Tomorrow

01/04/2007
Planetcricket Battrick Championship League One Game Three
Briggs Bullets v TT Lions @ The Bullets Dome
Start Time: 10:30am

Pre-Match Notes:Familiar faces resume old rivalries tomorrow at the Dome, as the TT Lions make the journey over from the West Indies to take on the Bullets in a potentially exciting encounter on a day apply named 'April Fools Day'. The Bullets are currently enjoying an unbeaten run in their start to the League One season, while the Lions have tasted both victory and defeat in their tenure so far. Both of these teams promoted from League Two last season and both scored victories over each other in the process so a good encounter is expected tomorrow. Both teams have a sense of unpredictability about them which could make the game even more interesting, but they will both be looking to score a victory and make the opposition look the fool at this early stage in the League.

Judging on my last PC league match and TT Lions last PC league match, and depending on the teams for tomorrow, the summary would be as follows:

Code:
                [B]Briggs Bullets[/B] [B]TT Lions[/B]
Top Order: respectable competent
Middle Order: competent respectable
Lower Order: abysmal [B]V[/B] abysmal
Seam Bowling: respectable superb
Spin Bowling: respectable superb
Fielding: woeful feeble
It is clear to see where the Lions main strengths lie. Their bowling attack is very strong and far superior to the Bullets, whereas the batting seems to be dead level. If the Bullets are to grab a victory here they are going to need to bat very well and try and bowl the Lions out cheaply.

Briggs Bullets Lineup to face TT Lions (from):
1.Ainsworth, 2.Sohail, 3.N.Ali(c), 4.Moodley, 5.Midworth(wk), 6.Jepson, 7.S.Ali, 8.Burdett, 9.Gillman, 10.Bignot, 11.Mcmahon

Briggs' View
"This is a big big game not only for us but for them too. They need to win this one because their start hasnt been as good as ours, but thats no excuse for us to take this one easy. We showed a huge game on Friday against the Bobcats and they are a stronger side than the Lions so if we perform like we did on Friday we could take it. It will be difficult, but they boys are certinally up for it and are in the mood for some good cricket tomorrow."
