The NZC and the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association were upset with the misconduct of their cricketers Chris Cairns and Brendon McCullum in a Durban nightclub last week, where Cairns was later hit a blow to the head. Both have been fined $500 each for their misbehaviour.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden after reviewing a report on the incident felt that the behaviour of the players was unacceptable.

The 11 players who were at the nightclub, Andre Adams, Chris Cairns, Stephen Fleming, Craig McMillan, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram, Scott Styris, Daryl Tuffey, Daniel Vettori and Lou Vincent have been reprimanded.
