He has done the job asked of him in the most recent couple of series, perhaps a fair bit more than what is asked of him, because he has played with grit and responsibility, as well as providing them with big shots. There are a few who might be better, but the likes of Hodge or Katich are 8 years his senior.

Clarke really needs to get his game on if he's going to become captain, otherwise White's there since he has experience with captaincy but White isn't always in the squad

I think after that century at Southampton, his 55 in tough conditions at Manchester, a solid T20 World Cup as his team mates fell around him and the Vics performance at the Champions League, he'll stay in the squad now :)

No suprise at all to see Clarke named Twenty20 captain. I think they've picked him on the fact he'll probably take over the proper job one day not because he is the best Twenty20 player, it gives him more experience now.

Good decision. Clarke has done reasonably well in opportunites that was given to him so far to play the role of Captain. It was only a matter of time he took over the captaincy from Ponting. He is a thinking Cricketer and would be a worthy successor to Ponting.Though it is now for T20 only he would be eventually handed over the Captaincy responsibility for One day and Test as well when Ponting retires. He is also a handy bowler. That would add extra value to the team.

All the best to Michael clarke.
