Jamaica's bowlers were put to the sword and failed to strike until the 25th over. However, they managed to turn things around with some clever death bowling to restrict Great Britain to a total of 252 when it looked like they could have finished with something a lot higher.

The Jamaicans were under pressure right from the start of their chase, having lost skipper Chris Gayle, their most dangerous batsman in just the second over of their innings. Following his dismissal, Marlon Samuels rose up to the challenge once again, just like he did during the final of the 2016 World T20 for the West Indies. He scored 91 off 93 balls to put Jamaica in a great position to chase down 252.
A good bit of support from John Campbell with whom he put on 99 for the 3rd wicket also helped, as did Rovman Powell's quickfire 36 off 21 balls which eventually took Jamaica over the line with 5 wickets and 3 balls to spare.
They finished with a gold medal for cricket at the 2016 Games, leaving Great Britain to settle for silver. Trinidad & Tobago, who had beaten Australia in the bronze playoff finished with a bronze medal for the sport.
Marlon Samuels' match winning 91 took his tournament tally to 232 runs at 77.33. He had also taken 2 wickets during Great Britain's innings to finish with 5 at a very miserly average of 10 for the tournament. This saw him pip his Jamaican skipper Chris Gayle to be named the Player of the Tournament for his efforts.
The medal were allotted as follows, as the sun finally set on the 2016 Olympic Games hosted by Rio de Janeiro.
