Australia were given a very good start by Aaron Finch, who scored 88 off 96 balls at the top. But they quickly ran out of specialist batsmen with Ravi Rampaul dismissing Cameron Bancroft, Chris Lynn and Travis Head. The flaws in their tactics of making bowling all-rounders such as Ben Cutting bat as high as No 5 were thoroughly exposed as a middle-order collapse followed, and they went from being 148/3 to 205 all out.
Ravi Rampaul had saved his best bowling performance for his team's last match of the competition. The right-arm pacer picked 5 for 40 from his 8 allotted overs to give Trinidad & Tobago a very good chance of finishing with a Bronze medal for cricket at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo continued their remarkable run of form at the top while donning the red Trinidad jersey with a 103-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Both batsmen made it to their respective half-centuries, Darren Bravo taking 62 balls, and Simmons slightly longer with 72. The big hitters in Trinidad's lineup such as Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo then clubbed sixes with gay abandon to catapult them towards their target of 206.
They got there in the 39th over, when the Trinidad skipper hit Adam Zampa for two sixes in the space of 3 deliveries to finish the match. Trinidad & Tobago finished with a Bronze medal for cricket at the 2016 Games. It was a somewhat disappointing end for Australia, who could have fared far better had they fully utilized the talent in their squad.
